Holy Family With Saint Catherine Of Alexandria
''Holy Family with Saint Catherine of Alexandria'' is a 1533 oil-on-canvas painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Lorenzo Lotto, now in the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. It is signed and dated "Laurentius Lotus 1533" and it measures 85.7 cm in height and 110.8 cm in width. Six later copies after the work are known. The Bergamo version is judged to be of exceptional quality, and the earliest. Lotto painted this in 1533, the year he abandoned Venice to settle in the Marche for seven years. Judging by its format, the painting was commissioned for a private chapel rather than as an altarpiece in a church. It was acquired in 1829 by count Guglielmo Lochis. It is difficult to identify an earlier provenance or patron due to the number of different versions of the painting. References

Lorenzo Lotto (c. 1480 – 1556/57) was an Italian Painting, painter, draughtsman, and illustrator, traditionally placed in the Venetian school (art), Venetian school, though much of his career was spent in other north Italian cities. He painted mainly altarpieces, religious subjects and portraits. He was active during the High Renaissance and the first half of the Mannerism, Mannerist period, but his work maintained a generally similar High Renaissance style throughout his career, although his nervous and eccentric posings and distortions represented a transitional stage to the Florentine and Roman Mannerists. The Accademia Carrara, (), officially Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti di Bergamo, is an art gallery and an academy of fine arts in Bergamo, in Lombardy in northern Italy. Guglielmo Lochis
Count Guglielmo Lochis (1789 – 25 July 1859) was an Italian nobleman, politician, art collector and art connoisseur. Born in Mozzo into a family which had been active in Bergamo since the 16th century and which had held the title of count since the 18th century, he entered public life in 1816 as a member of the Lombard-Venetian guard during the visit to Bergamo of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor. In 1835 Bergamo's Accademia Carrara made him its auction commissioner; he also served as the city's podestà from 1842 to 1848, with his resignation from the latter role triggered by the Revolutions of 1848. He died in Bergamo. Collection Lochis acquired several artworks in the 1820s, gathering a collection of around 500 works in Villa delle Crocette in Mozzo, which became a stop on the tourist-trail in the area.
