Holsten-Trophy
The Flieger Trophy is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Hamburg-Horn over a distance of 1,200 metres (about 6 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June or July. History The event was established in 1966, and the inaugural running was titled the Campari-Preis. It was initially contested over 1,200 metres, and was extended to 1,400 metres in 1974. For a period it was known as the Preis der Dresdner Bank. The race was given Group 3 status in 1985, and it reverted to 1,200 metres in 1989. Its title has often changed, and for several years it was called the Holsten-Trophy. It became known as the Flieger Trophy in 2010. Galopprennbahn Hamburg-Horn (''Hamburg-Horn Racecourse''), also known as Horner Rennbahn, is a major horse racing venue located in Horn, Hamburg, Horn, Hamburg, Germany. Alain Lequeux (1947 – 26 April 2006) was one of France's leading jockey A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. Overdose (horse)
Overdose (2 April 2005 in Nottinghamshire, Great Britain – 1 July 2015 in Germany) was a Hungarian Thoroughbred racehorse. During his career he was victorious in sixteen of his nineteen races. Breeding Overdose was English-bred and was sold at Tattersalls December Yearling Sales in November 2006 for just 2,000 guineas (£2,100). His sire was a miler called Starborough and he was out of Our Poppet (IRE) by Warning. He was a half-brother of three winners. His owner, Zoltán Mikóczy purchased Overdose only by chance and has been quoted as saying "I just put my hand up for fun, I like excitement of the horse auctions. I thought no horse can go this cheap and surely somebody else would bid. He's short and I'd say kind of ugly, so of course nobody wanted him." Jimmy Quinn (jockey)
James Quinn (born 20 May 1967) is an Irish professional horse racing flat jockey. Quinn was born in Rochestown, New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland. He moved to England as an apprentice jockey in 1985 and works as a freelance jockey based in Newmarket. In four seasons (1996, 2002, 2004 and 2009) Quinn clocked up over 1,000 rides. In an interview with ''The Guardian'' in 2006, he defended the practice of riding in afternoon and evening race meetings on the same day, even if it meant driving long distances between meetings. He described his career in the following terms: "I know I'm not one of the really top jockeys. But I've built a really good career as a successful lightweight jockey. John Reid (jockey)
John Andrew Reid (born 6 August 1955 in Banbridge County Down, Northern Ireland) is a retired flat race jockey. Reid served as an apprentice in his native Ireland to Leslie Crawford, before moving to England and joining Verley Bewicke. His first Classic victory came in the 1982 1,000 Guineas aboard On The House. His first major Group 1 race win came in the 1978 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Ile de Bourbon. Reid won this race for a second time in 1997 on Swain, when the top-class thoroughbreds Helissio, Singspiel and Pilsudski were all beaten off. His biggest victory came on Dr Devious in the 1992 Epsom Derby for the trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam. He also won the 1988 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Tony Bin. Andrasch Starke (born 4 January 1974, in Germany) is a jockey in international Thoroughbred horse racing. Starke began racing at age fifteen as an amateur and since turning professional has won the German riding championship six times. He has competed in Canada and the United States and has won races in Dubai, France, Italy, and Singapore. Hever Golf Rose
Hever Golf Rose (22 February 1991 – September 1999) was a thoroughbred racehorse who was bred and trained in the United Kingdom, and campaigned throughout Europe in a career that lasted from 1993 to 1998. She was a specialist sprinter, showing her best form over distances of five and six furlongs (1000m and 1200m), who was known for her consistency and durability, and was particularly effective on soft ground. In a six-year career, she ran in sixty-six races and won seventeen. In her best season in 1995 she won six Group races and was named European Champion Sprinter. A year after her retirement, Hever Golf Rose died after failing to recover from the anaesthetic following an operation on a joint injury. William Edward Robin Hood Hastings-Bass, 17th Earl of Huntingdon, (born 30 January 1948), is an English hereditary peer and former racehorse trainer to Queen Elizabeth II. François Boutin
François Boutin (21 January 1937 – 1 February 1995) was a French Thoroughbred horse trainer. The son of a farmer, he was born in the village of Beaunay in the northerly Seine Maritime département. He began riding horses at a young age and competed in show jumping and cross-country equestrianism. He began his professional racing career driving horses in harness racing then after serving as a flat racing apprentice, obtained his license as a trainer in 1964. François Boutin was the trainer for the stables of Jean-Luc Lagardère and for the Stavros Niarchos family. During his more than thirty-year career he was the leading money winner in France seven times (1976, 1978–81, 1983–84).
