Holsted Speedway Center
Holsted Speedway Center or Moldow Speedway Arena is a motorcycle speedway facility located about 6 kilometres south of Holsted, Denmark. The track is off the Ribevej road that runs south from railway town. The stadium is the home track for the Holsted Tigers, who race in the Danish Speedway Leagues. History The track opened on 4 June 1989, replacing the old Holsted Gørklint Speedway track. Holsted is a railway town located in the Vejen Municipality, in the Region of Southern Denmark. It was previously the seat of the Holsted Municipality. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Holsted Speedway Klub or Holsted Tigers is a speedway club from Holsted in Denmark, who compete in the Danish Speedway League. History The club was founded on 5 November 1974 by Kurt Bøgh. The Danish Speedway League ( da, Dansk Speedway Liga) or Danish Super League or Metal League as it is called today is the top division of motorcycle speedway in Denmark. 1996 Intercontinental Final
The 1996 Intercontinental Final was the eighteenth running of the Intercontinental Final and was the second last qualifying stage for Motorcycle speedway riders to qualify for the 1997 Speedway Grand Prix series. The Final was run on 28 July at the Holsted Speedway Center in Holsted, Denmark The Intercontinental Final saw a unique situation where 13 of the riders had come from the Scandinavian Final, five more than originally planned. This came about because of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM's controversial post-meeting decision to disqualify all bar three riders (Ryan Sullivan, Kelvin Tatum and Mark Lemon (speedway rider), Mark Lemon) from the 1996 Overseas Final, Overseas Final in Coventry, England, for not starting the meeting on flat tyres. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The last edition was in 2017. From 2018, the World Cup was replaced by the Speedway of Nations, which effectively brought back the pairs format. However, in 2023 the World Cup will return. Format The final tournament usually lasted for about a week with four meetings held in six or seven days. It started with two first round "events", each consisting of four national teams. The winners of these events qualified automatically for the final, while those who finished second and third competed in the race-off. Last place finishers were eliminated. Danish Individual Speedway Championship
Individual Speedway Danish Championship is the National competition for Danish speedway riders to determine the champion of Denmark. The event was first held in 1947. From 1947 to 1951 there was no definitive difference between the short track and long track Championship of Denmark resulting in the same winner being recorded for both versions. Qualification Riders holding a Danish passport and a valid DMU licence. Riders must submit their entries at least four weeks before the first meeting of the competition. Any riders who competed in the Speedway Grand Prix or World Championship Qualifying rounds during the previous season are seeded directly to the Final. The DMU may also seed other riders directly to the Final at their discretion. Either one or two Semi-Finals are staged depending on the number of riders entering the competition (excluding the seeded riders who go straight through to the Final).
