Hollywood Prevue Stakes
The Bob Hope Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds over a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt track scheduled annually in November at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. The event currently carries a purse of $100,000. History The event was inaugurated on 14 November 1981 as the Hollywood Prevue Stakes at Hollywood Park Racetrack and was won by the undefeated Sepulveda who was trained by the US Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas and ridden by the US Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron in a time of 1:22 flat. In 1985 the event was classified as Grade III and has remained this status since. Between 1990 and 1995, the Breeders' Cup sponsored the event which reflected in the name of the event. From 2006 to 2014 it was held on a synthetic dirt surface. Del Mar Racetrack
The Del Mar Fairgrounds is a event venue in Del Mar, California. The annual San Diego County Fair is held here, which was called the Del Mar Fair from 1984 to 2001. In 1936, the Del Mar Racetrack was built by the Thoroughbred Club with founding member Bing Crosby providing leadership. The Fairgrounds is owned by the State of California and is managed by the 22nd District Agricultural Association, a state agency that hosts more than 300 annual events. Joseph Talamo
Joseph "Joe" Talamo (born January 12, 1990 in Marrero, Louisiana) is a Champion jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Born and raised in Marrero on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, within the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area, Joe Talamo was influenced by a father who worked in horse racing as an assistant trainer. At age eleven, he began riding horses and worked as a stable boy. Like many successful Cajun jockeys before him, Talamo first raced at a bush track. Mucho Gusto (foaled April 26, 2016) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2020 Pegasus World Cup. Racing Career Mucho Gusto's first race was on September 20, 2018 at Los Alamitos Race Course where he came in first. His next race was the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes, on November 17, 2018, where he also came in first. He finished his 2018 season with a second place finish at the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity. Drayden Van Dyke (born September 10, 1994, in Louisville, Kentucky) is a jockey in thoroughbred racing. At graded stakes races, Van Dyke has won 67 events ranging from Grade I to Grade III. John Shirreffs
John A. Shirreffs (born June 1, 1945, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. Based in California, Vietnam War veteran John Shirreffs began training Thoroughbreds in 1978. He has won a number of stakes races with his most important coming in the 2005 Kentucky Derby when Giacomo scored a major upset. In 2007, another Shirreffs-trained horse scored a major upset when Tiago, a half-brother to Giacomo (both out of the mare Set Them Free) won the Santa Anita Derby.
