Holland–Bukit Panjang Group Representation Constituency
The Holland–Bukit Panjang Group Representation Constituency was a Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in Singapore which only appeared in the 2001 elections. Prior to that, parts of the Cashew and Zhenghua were originally Bukit Panjang division of the Sembawang GRC and several parts of Bukit Timah (Eng Neo) were originally Tanglin division of the Kreta Ayer–Tanglin GRC. Buona Vista came from Tanjong Pagar GRC and Ulu Pandan came from Bukit Timah GRC. Every division was absorbed into Holland–Bukit Timah GRC in 2006, except the Bukit Panjang division which was carved out as a Single Member Constituency A single-member district is an electoral district represented by a single officeholder. Holland Village, Singapore
Holland Village, often abbreviated as Holland V, is a neighbourhood located along the boundary between the planning areas of Bukit Timah and Queenstown in the Central Region of Singapore. Holland Village is a popular shopping and dining destination for younger Singaporeans and expatriates. It is dominated by and often visited solely for its eateries and watering holes, along with some specialist shops. The area is served by its own MRT station, which opened in 2011. Etymology Holland Village was named after Holland Road, which in turn was named after Hugh Holland in 1907; Holland, an architect and amateur actor, was an early resident of the area. The roads 'Holland Avenue', 'Holland Close' and 'Holland Drive' were officially named after the principal road in 1972. Tanglin
Tanglin is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Tanglin is located west of Newton, Orchard, River Valley and Singapore River, south of Novena, east of Bukit Timah, northeast of Queenstown and north of Bukit Merah. Etymology and history On 7 November 2006, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) called for proposals to liven up the Dempsey Road area when it launched two new tenders for sites there. In doing so, it also announced that it has plans for the area up to 2015. Known as Tanglin Village, the former Central Manpower Base has now been transformed into a commercial plaza best accessed via car or taxi. Central Water Catchment
The Central Water Catchment, also known as the Central Catchment Area, is a designated planning area and one of the two main water catchments of Singapore. The country's main reservoirs – MacRitchie, Upper Seletar, Upper Peirce and Lower Peirce – are in the central catchment area. Bukit Timah
Bukit Timah, often abbreviated as Bt Timah, is a planning area and residential estate located in the westernmost part of the Central Region of Singapore. Bukit Timah lies roughly from the Central Business District, bordering the Central Water Catchment to the north, Bukit Panjang to the northwest, Queenstown to the south, Tanglin to the southeast, Clementi to the southwest, Novena to the east and Bukit Batok to the west. Owing to its prime location, Bukit Timah has some of the densest clusters of luxury condominiums and landed property in the city, with very few public housing. Etymology The first identification of the area was on the 1828 map by Frankin and Jackson and was noted as Bukit Timah. Bukit Panjang SMC
The Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) located in the western area of Singapore. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is Liang Eng Hwa of the People's Action Party (PAP) . History The seat consists the main portion of Bukit Panjang (Blks 101-129, 2xx and 4xx Fajar) and was reformed in the 2006 electoral boundary redraw. Bukit Panjang SMC existed from 1959 to 1991 when it was absorbed into the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC). In 2001, the seat was moved from Sembawang GRC to Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC. The 2006 redrawn boundaries carved out Bukit Panjang to form the current constituency and the GRC was renamed Holland–Bukit Timah GRC. Bukit Timah Single Member Constituency (SMC) was a single member constituency in Bukit Timah, Singapore. It was formerly known as Bukit Timah Constituency before 1988. History In 1951, Rural West Constituency was broken up into Bukit Timah constituency and Seletar constituency . In 1955, the constituency was broken up to form various constituencies, Bukit Panjang, Pasir Panjang, Queenstown, Sembawang and Southern Islands SMC. In 1959, it was further broken up to form Jurong SMC. 2006 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 6 May 2006. President of Singapore, President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 20 April 2006 on the advice of Prime Minister of Singapore, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong three weeks before the election. The People's Action Party (PAP) won 66.6% of the overall votes and gained 82 out of 84 seats. The PAP held the office of Prime Minister for a twelfth consecutive term. The general election was held under the first-past-the-post system. On Nomination Day, the PAP gained 37 seats in divisions which were uncontested by other parties. Teo Ho Pin ( zh, s=张俰宾, p=Zhāng Huòbīn; born 19 January 1960) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Mayor of North West District between 2001 and 2020. Gan Kim Yong ( zh, s=颜金勇, p=Yán Jīnyǒng; born 9 February 1959) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Minister for Trade and Industry since 2021.
