Hollabrunn
Hollabrunn () is a district capital town in the Austrian States of Austria, state of Lower Austria, on the Göllersbach river. It is situated in the heart of the biggest wine region of Austria, the Weinviertel. History The surroundings of Hollabrunn were first settled in neolithic times. Around 300 B.C. one of the most significant La Tène culture cities in central Europe briefly flourished on the southern slopes of the Sandberg hill at Roseldorf close to the village of Platt, Austria, Platt, a few kilometers to the northwest of Hollabrunn. Platt, Austria
Platt is a village in the Zellerndorf administrative community in the district of Hollabrunn, Lower Austria, in northeast Austria. It is notable for its position on the Diendorf fault line and for its immediate vicinity to the site of one of the most significant Celtic settlements in Central Europe, situated on the southern slopes of the nearby Sandberg ridge towards the neighboring village of Roseldorf. History The Platt area shows signs of human habitation that date back to late neolithic (Funnelbeaker culture) and early Bronze Age (Unetice culture) times. Pyotr Bagration
Prince Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration (10 July 1765 – 24 September 1812) was a Georgian general and prince serving in the Russian Empire, prominent during the Napoleonic Wars. Bagration, a member of the Bagrationi dynasty, was born in Tbilisi. His father, Ivan (Ivane), served as an officer in the Imperial Russian Army, in which Bagration also enlisted in 1782. Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration began his military career serving in the Russo-Circassian War of 1763–1864 for a couple of years. Afterwards he participated in a war against the Ottomans and the capture of Ochakov in 1788. Later he helped suppress the Kościuszko Uprising of 1794 in Poland and capture Warsaw. Felix Ritter von Luschan (11 August 1854 – 7 February 1924) was an Austrian doctor, anthropologist, explorer, archaeologist and ethnographer. Life Luschan was born the son of a lawyer in Hollabrunn, Lower Austria, and attended the Akademisches Gymnasium in Vienna. Karl Anton Nowotny
Karl Anton Nowotny (June 21, 1904 in Hollabrunn – December 31, 1978 in Vienna) was an Austrian ethnographer, art historian and academic, specialising in the study of Mesoamerican cultures. He is most renowned for his analyses and reproductions of Mesoamerican codices, and his commentaries on their iconography and symbolisms. Nowotny was a pioneer and leading exponent of applying comparative ethnography to the study of pre-Columbian and conquest-era texts and codices. In this technique, the meaning and symbolism of the texts are analysed and compared with the cultural practices and beliefs of modern indigenous Mesoamerican peoples whose traditions have been maintained. Hans Hermann Groër
Hans Hermann Wilhelm Groër OSB (13 October 1919 – 24 March 2003) was an Austrian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Vienna from 1986 to 1995, and became a cardinal in 1988. Pope John Paul II replaced him as archbishop after multiple allegations of sexual abuse of children, and at John Paul's request Groër relinquished all ecclesiastical duties and privileges as an archbishop and cardinal on 14 April 1998. Biography Groër was born in Vienna to German parents, with whom he moved in 1929 to Czechoslovakia, where they remained for the next decade. He attended seminaries in Hollabrunn and Vienna (where he received his doctorate in theology) before being ordained to the priesthood on 12 April 1942 by Cardinal Theodor Innitzer. Felix Von Winiwarter
Felix von Winiwarter (February 28, 1852 – July 10, 1931) was an Austrian physician who was a native of Vienna. In 1876 he earned his doctorate at the University of Vienna, and remained in Vienna as an assistant in the clinic of Heinrich von Bamberger (1822–1888). Soon afterwards, he became a surgical apprentice to Theodor Billroth (1829–1894), and from 1878 to 1881 worked as a secondary physician under Leopold Ritter von Dittel (1815–1898). In 1881 he became hospital director at ''Landesklinikum Weinviertel'' in Hollabrunn. He was a younger brother to Alexander von Winiwarter (1848–1917), who also spent part of his career working with Theodor Billroth. Winiwarter is credited for providing an early description of thromboangiitis obliterans. In 1879 he described a situation involving a 57-year-old male patient who had an unusual obliteration of the arteries and veins of the leg. Markus Suttner (born 16 April 1987) is an Austrian professional footballer who plays as a left-back for SK Wullersdorf. Club career Austria Wien Suttner came through the youth system at Austria Wien before making his breakthrough season at the Viennan club in his first professional season, in the 2008–09 season where he made 22 league appearances.
