Holger Marius Nielsen
Holger Marius Nielsen (1905–1993) was an official of the Danish Ministry of Education. He was one of the editors of the ''Dictionary of the Danish Language'' (Ordbog over det Danske Sprog), which was edited and published from 1919 until 1956 in 28 volumes and is available on the internet. He was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog in 1965 after having been the chairman of a ministerial working group preparing a new bill on the education of Danish teachers in primary school. The bill was adopted by the Danish Parliament in 1966. He retired from his duties with the Ministry of Education in 1973. Holger Marius Nielsen was the son of Peder Adolf Nielsen (1872–1962) and Caroline Marie Nielsen (1873–1937). He grew up with his two brothers, Axel Nielsen (1902–1970) and Povl Erik Nielsen (1909–1995) in Glostrup, 10 kilometres west of Copenhagen. Order Of The Dannebrog
The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order. Today, the Order of the Dannebrog is a means of honouring and rewarding the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service, for a particular contribution to the arts, sciences or business life, or for working for Danish interests. Axel Nielsen
Axel Vilfred Nielsen (13 December 1902 – 24 February 1970) was a Danish astronomer at the Ole Rømer Observatory in Aarhus from 1927 until his death in 1970. In 1921, while still a student, Nielsen established his private observatory "Spica" in Glostrup. The observatory was located on the premises of a local enterprise, Glostrup Træskofabrik, where Nielsen's father, Peder Adolf Nielsen, was employed as a manager. Axel V. Nielsen graduated in 1926 from the University of Copenhagen. In 1927 Nielsen was employed as an assistant with the Ole Rømer Observatory in Aarhus, later as head of section. The Ole Rømer Observatory had been established in 1911; in 1956 it was handed over to the University of Aarhus. The crater Nielsen on the Moon is named after Axel V. Nielsen and the American physicist Harald Herborg Nielsen. Nielsen is a 10 km wide impact crater in the Oceanus Procellarum. It is located north-east of Montes Agricola. Glostrup
Glostrup is a Danish town in Region Hovedstaden, forming one of the western suburbs of Copenhagen. It is the administrative seat of Glostrup Municipality, with an estimated population of 22,357 . During the 20th century Glostrup developed from a small railroad town into a modern middle class suburb. The population reached a peak during the 1970s flight from central Copenhagen, but has since stabilized. While most of Copenhagens western suburbs are dominated by public housing projects, Glostrups mix is around the Danish average. A series of large companies, e.g. Grontmij's and Motorola's Danish sections, along with NKT Holding and Pandora are situated in the area. Jørgen Erik Nielsen
Jørgen Erik Nielsen, Dr. Phil. (23 September 1933 – 10 January 2007) was an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen. Nielsen graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 1959. In 1976 he was awarded the D.Phil. degree for a dissertation on the Danish reception of contemporary English literature 1800–1840 (''Den samtidige engelske litteratur og Danmark 1800–1840 I-II''). He researched and published on the reception of English and Russian literature in Denmark in the 19th century. His research also resulted in a number of publications on Danish linguists of the 19th and 20th century. He contributed to ''A Linguist's Life, An English Translation of Otto Jespersen's Autobiography'', by Arne Juul, Hans Frede Nielsen and Jørgen Erik Nielsen (ed.), Odense 1995, and published several articles and contributions on the work of Otto Jespersen.
