Elmar Holenstein
Elmar Holenstein (born 7 January 1937 in Gossau, Canton St. Gallen) is a Swiss philosopher with research interests in the fields of philosophical psychology, philosophy of language and cultural philosophy. Scholarly career Elmar Holenstein studied philosophy, psychology, and linguistics at the universities of Louvain/Leuven, Heidelberg, and Zurich from 1964 to 1972. His Ph.D. dissertation dealt with the phenomenology of the pre- and non-conceptual human experience as explored by Edmund Husserl (1859–1938), the German founder of the phenomenological movement in philosophy. Holenstein gained professorial status (habilitation) by a book on the phenomenological structuralism of Roman Jacobson. Between 1971 and 1997 he continued his studies at the Husserl archive in Leuven, at Harvard University with Roman Jakobson, and at the University of Hawai'i. Cameron Holenstein
Cameron Holenstein (born 11 March 1995) is a South African rugby union player, currently playing for Hartpury University in the RFU Championship. His favoured position is loosehead prop.Cameron is an international Swiss Mens XV rugby player. Growing up in South Africa, Holenstein began his sporting career as a javelin thrower, owing to his powerful build. Holenstein’s javelin career was cut short at the age of 16 due to a career-ending shoulder injury. Being a physical and athletic young man, he turned his attention to rugby after his shoulder had recovered. His rugby career began at Pretoria Harlequins. In 2014, he played for the Sharks U19 team, where he first met fellow Harlequin Tim Swiel. Thomas Holenstein
Thomas Holenstein (7 February 1896 – 31 October 1962) was a Swiss politician and member of the Swiss Federal Council (1955–1959). Holenstein studied law at the University of Bern, finishing in 1920. He then worked as a lawyer in his father's office in St. Gallen. Politically, he was affiliated to the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland. From 1930 to 1935 he was president of the young conservative movement of the canton of St. Gallen. He was elected to the city parliament of St. Gallen in 1927. From 1936 to 1954 Holenstein served in the canton's parliament, and from 1937 to 1954 he represented his canton in the National Council of Switzerland. He was also the President of the Parliamentary Party from 1942 to 1954 and President of the National Council in 1952. He was elected to the Federal Council of Switzerland on 16 December 1954.
