"Holding On" is a ballad by British singer Beverley Craven. The song was released as the album's fourth single in late 1990. This was Craven's first entry in the UK charts, peaking at a low #95 in February 1991. After the success of " Promise Me" in May 1991, "Holding On" was re-released as the follow-up single in July 1991, peaking at #32. The song also hit some European charts, and was also Craven's sole chart entry in the USA charts. Beverley Craven (born 28 July 1963) is a British singer-songwriter best known for her 1991 UK hit single " Promise Me". Her album '' Change of Heart'' was released in 2014 and '' Mixed Emotions'' in 1999. Biography Early life Craven was born in Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), in July 1963, while her British father was working there for Kodak. He later worked as an investment advisor. Within two years, the family had relocated to rural Buckinghamshire, to a bungalow on a five acre plot and where her younger twin sisters were born. Craven began taking piano lessons at the age of seven, encouraged by her music teacher mother who was a classical violinist and who had performed at the Royal Albert Hall. Upon leaving school, Craven attended art college. She also performed with various bands in London pubs and was writing songs. ''Beverley Craven'' is the debut album by British singer-songwriter Beverley Craven, released in July 1990. The album was fully written by Craven herself and features her biggest hit single and signature song, " Promise Me". Background Craven signed to Epic Records in 1988, and initially recorded the album with American producer Stewart Levine (of Simply Red fame). The initial results, however, were not of Craven's liking and, with the agreement of her label, she restarted from scratch working with Paul Samwell-Smith, who eventually produced the whole album. Levine's production of her songs were eventually released as b-sides to some of her singles, under the label "West Coast Version". Released in July 1990, the album and its singles initially failed to reach the charts in the UK.
