Briana Scurry
Briana Collette Scurry (born September 7, 1971) is an American retired soccer goalkeeper, and assistant coach of the Washington Spirit . Scurry was the starting goalkeeper for the United States women's national soccer team at the 1995 World Cup (3rd place), 1996 Summer Olympics (gold medal), 1999 World Cup (champions), 2003 World Cup (3rd place), and the 2004 Summer Olympic Games (gold medal). She played in the semi-final and playoff for third place in the 2007 Women's World Cup (3rd place). She was a founding member of the WUSA, playing three seasons as starting goalkeeper for the Atlanta Beat (2001–2003). Her career total of 173 international appearances is the second most among female soccer goalkeepers. Carey Scurry
Carey Scurry (born December 4, 1962) is an American professional basketball player. A forward from Long Island University, Scurry played three seasons (1985–1988) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game over the course of his NBA career. Scurry also played in Greece, Spain, and Brazil. In January 2006, Scurry was named to the Northeast Conference 25th Anniversary Men's Basketball Team. Carey is the older brother of Moses Scurry, who played on the 1990 UNLV team that won the NCAA championship. James Scurry
James Scurry (1766–1822) was a British soldier and memoirist. He was held captive by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan for 10 years (1780–1790) at Seringapatam. He had been kept as a prisoner, first at Bangalore and then moved to the Seringapatnam fort. After his escape from Tipu's army, in Chitterdroog, he reached an English camp. He prepared a narrative of his captivity in 1794, but it was not published until 1824, after his death. He is known for his memoir ''The captivity, sufferings, and escape of James Scurry, who was detained a prisoner during ten years, in the dominions of Hyder Ali and Tippoo Saib'' (1824), which relates the sufferings and treatment of the captured English soldiers, Mangalorean Catholics, and other prisoners of war by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, the rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore in India. Moses Scurry
Moses Scurry (born 14 June 1968) is a former college and professional basketball player. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Scurry played power forward for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels during the 1988–89 and 1989-90 seasons. The Rebels beat Duke University 103-73 to win the title game of the 1990 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. Scurry appeared on the cover of ''Sports Illustrated'' the following week. Primarily coming off the bench as the sixth man during UNLV's championship season, Scurry was a favorite among UNLV fans and fellow players because of his animated, shouting style when grabbing rebounds, and was the team's leading rebounder during the 1989 NCAA tournament, pulling down 10.3 per game. Rod Scurry
Rodney Grant Scurry (March 17, 1956 – November 5, 1992) was an American professional baseball pitcher. Scurry played for eight seasons and was the first Major League Baseball (MLB) player directly linked to the Pittsburgh drug trials that dogged baseball during the mid-1980s. In 1992, Scurry died of a cocaine-induced heart attack. Career Pittsburgh Pirates Scurry was born in Sacramento, California and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the eleventh overall pick in the 1974 Major League Baseball Draft. He spent six seasons in the Pirates' farm system, compiling a 37–51 record and 3.89 earned run average, before making the major league club out of Spring training . William Scurry
William Charles Scurry, (30 October 1895 – 28 December 1963) was an Australian soldier who invented the self-firing "drip rifle" while serving as a private in the Gallipoli campaign during the First World War. He was decorated for his invention and was later commissioned and served as an officer during the fighting on the Western Front, where he commanded a mortar battery before being wounded in action. In later life Scurry worked as an architectural modeller and orchardist before his war injuries forced him to retire. During the Second World War, he served on home service, as commandant of an internment camp before retiring to civilian life following the end of the war. He died in 1963. William Read Scurry
William Read Scurry (February 10, 1821 – April 30, 1864) was a general in the Confederate States Army in the American Civil War. Biography Scurry was born in Gallatin, Tennessee. He moved to Texas in 1839 and became a lawyer and district attorney. Scurry was married to Janette (Jeannitte) B. Sutton on December 17, 1846 and had seven children. He represented Red River County in the Ninth Congress of the Republic of Texas in 1844 and 1845 and served in the House of Representatives in 1845, promoting the annexation of Texas to the United States. Enlisting as a private in the Mexican–American War, Scurry rose to the rank of major by July 1846. Afterward, he practiced law in Clinton, Texas, and was co-owner and editor of the ''Austin State Gazette''. In 1856 Scurry became a delegate to the state Democratic nominating convention, and in 1861 he was a delegate to the Secession Convention. Scurry is a town in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. It was incorporated in 2003. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 681. Scurry is named after Scurry Dean. The arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in the 1870s established the settlement as a shipment point for area farmers. When local residents requested a post office, they submitted the name Scurry – in honor of Scurry Dean, who was killed during the Civil War. Scurry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 16,932. Its county seat is Snyder, which is the home for Western Texas College. Scurry Racing, Monmouth Show.A pair of ponies being driven in the scurry competition at the 2012 Scurry driving is a fast-paced equestrian sport in which a pair of ponies pull a carriage around a course of cones in an attempt to get the fastest time. The full name of the sport is Double Harness Scurry Driving. Rules The aim is to achieve the fastest time in getting around the track, without knocking any balls off the top of the cones that mark the course. For every ball that is knocked off, a time penalty in incurred. It is almost always done at a gallop. Due to the small distance between the cones (170 cm), accuracy is key. A course contains between 10 and 14 obstacles, such as a box and a slalom.
