Elmo Paul Hohman
Elmo Paul Hohman (August 2, 1894 – January 1, 1977) was an American professor of economics. He wrote a number of books about merchant seafarers. Early life He was born on August 2, 1894, in Salem, Washington County, Illinois, US. His parents were Henry Hohman (1838–1897) and Caroline née Hoffman. His father was born in Germany, came to the United States in 1860 and served in the Union Army during the Civil War. The couple had eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Academic career The title of Hohman's BA history thesis at the University of Illinois was, ''The Ku Klux Klan: Its Origin, Growth, and Disbandment'' (1916). His MA history thesis at the same institution was, ''The Attitude of the Presbyterian Church in the United States Towards American Slavery'' (1917). He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. George Hohman
George Harold Hohman, Jr. (June 2, 1932 – November 20, 2006) was an American teacher and Alaskan politician. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Hohman moved with his family to Glennie, Michigan and then graduated from high school in Oscoda, Michigan in 1950. In 1952, Hohman served in the United States Army and studied the Russian language. In 1954, Hohman was sent to Fort Richardson in Alaska to study the Russian language and how this influenced the Native Alaskan language. After his service in the United States Army, Hohman graduated from Michigan State University. In 1962, he moved back to Alaska and settled in Bethel, Alaska where he became a teacher. From 1967 to 1973, Hohman served in the Alaska House of Representatives and was a Democrat. John George Hohman
John George Hohman (also spelled Johann Georg Hohman, and his surname sometimes misspelled as Hoffman), who was active between 1802 and 1846, was a German-American printer, book seller and compiler of collections of herbal remedies, magical healings, and charms. He immigrated to the USA from Germany in 1802, settled in the area around Reading, Pennsylvania, in the Pennsylvania Dutch community, where he printed and sold broadsides, chapbooks and books and practised and instructed in the arts of folk magic and folk religion which became known as pow-wow.
