Scottish People
The Scots ( sco, Scots Fowk; gd, Albannaich) are an ethnic group and nation native to Scotland. Historically, they emerged in the early Middle Ages from an amalgamation of two Celtic-speaking peoples, the Picts and Gaels, who founded the Kingdom of Scotland (or ''Alba'') in the 9th century. In the following two centuries, the Celtic-speaking Cumbrians of Strathclyde and the Germanic-speaking Angles of north Northumbria became part of Scotland. In the High Middle Ages, during the 12th-century Davidian Revolution, small numbers of Norman nobles migrated to the Lowlands. In the 13th century, the Norse-Gaels of the Western Isles became part of Scotland, followed by the Norse of the Northern Isles in the 15th century. In modern usage, "Scottish people" or "Scots" refers to anyone whose linguistic, cultural, family ancestral or genetic origins are from Scotland. Jim Hogg
James Stephen "Jim" Hogg (March 24, 1851March 3, 1906) was an American lawyer and statesman, and the 20th Governor of Texas. He was born near Rusk, Texas. Hogg was a follower of the conservative New South Creed which became popular following the U.S. Civil War, and was also associated with populism. He was the first Texas Governor to have been born in Texas. Jim Hogg County is named after him. Hogg is often remembered for naming his daughter Ima, an odd name which derived from a poem written by James's brother, Thomas Elisha Hogg. The story that she had a sister named "Ura" is an urban legend. Early years Hogg was born in Cherokee County, Texas. His parents, Joseph L. Hogg and Lucanda McMath had moved to Texas in late 1836. During the Civil War, his father served as a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army. Joseph Hogg died in 1862, and Lucanda died the following year. John Hogg
John Joseph Hogg (born 19 March 1949) is a former Australian politician who served as a Senator for Queensland from 1996 to 2014, representing the Labor Party. He served as President of the Senate from 2008 to 2014. Early life Hogg was born in Brisbane to Francis Patrick and Catherine Frances Hogg. Ron Hogg
Adam Ronald Hogg (1 October 1951 – 17 December 2019) was a British politician and police officer. He was the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, elected for the Labour Party. He was the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012 and re-elected on 6 May 2016. Police career Hogg served for over 30 years as a police officer. During the 2002 FIFA World Cup, he led the English police unit fighting football hooliganism in the host countries, Japan and South Korea. As a chief officer, he served as the Assistant Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary with responsibility for operational matters and then, from 2003, as the Deputy Chief Constable of Cleveland Police. Biography She was born Sarah Elizabeth Mary Boyd-Carpenter, her father being John Boyd-Carpenter, Baron Boyd-Carpenter, a former Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Paymaster-General. Douglas Martin Hogg, 3rd Viscount Hailsham, Baron Hailsham of Kettlethorpe (born 5 February 1945), is a British politician and barrister. Caroline Jennifer Hogg (born 18 April 1942) is a former Australian politician for the Labor Party. She was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1982 to 1996 and a minister in the governments of John Cain and Joan Kirner. Born Caroline Jennifer Kluht in Somerset, England, she emigrated to Australia in 1950 with her mother. She trained to become a teacher and in 1967, married Bob Hogg, who later became national secretary of the ALP. They had a son and a daughter. Norman Hogg, Baron Hogg of Cumbernauld CBE, DL, JP, LLD, FSA Scot. (12 March 1938 – 8 October 2008) was a Scottish Labour politician. Quintin McGarel Hogg, Baron Hailsham of St Marylebone, (9 October 1907 – 12 October 2001), known as the 2nd Viscount Hailsham between 1950 and 1963, at which point he disclaimed his hereditary peerage, was a British barrister and Conservative Party politician who served as Lord Chancellor from 1970 to 1974 and again from 1979 to 1987. Norman Hogg (22 November 1907 – 25 June 1975) was a Scottish Labour Party politician. Hogg worked as a baker and joined the Scottish Union of Bakers and Allied Workers, later becoming its full-time North of Scotland organiser, then winning promotion to become national organiser. At the 1950 UK general election, the union sponsored him as a Labour Party candidate in South Angus. He took second place, with a quarter of the vote. He stood in West Aberdeenshire at the 1951 UK general election, again taking second place. Hogg served on Aberdeen City Council for 21 years, and was Lord Provost of Aberdeen from 1964 to 1967. Douglas McGarel Hogg, 1st Viscount Hailsham (28 February 1872 – 16 August 1950) was a British lawyer and Conservative politician who twice served as Lord Chancellor, in addition to a number of other Cabinet positions.
