Hoda Ablan
Hoda Ablan (born 1971) is a Yemeni poet. She was born in Ibb and studied at the University of Sanaa, obtaining a master's degree in political science in 1993. Her first collection of poetry ''Wurud shaqiyat al-malamih'' (Roses with Mischievous Features) was published in Damascus in 1989. She has since published several other poetry collections. Her work has appeared in translation in several outlets including two issues of Banipal magazine (issues 8 and 36). Yemen
Yemen (; ar, ٱلْيَمَن, al-Yaman), officially the Republic of Yemen,, ) is a country in Western Asia. Sana'a University ( ) was established in 1970 as the first and the primary university in the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen), now the Republic of Yemen (see also Aden University). It is located in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, and is currently organized with 17 faculties. Previously the university was located at . Banipal
''Banipal'' is an independent literary magazine dedicated to the promotion of contemporary Arab literature through translations in English. It was founded in London in 1998 by Margaret Obank and Samuel Shimon. The magazine is published three times a year. Since its inception, it has published works and interviews of numerous Arab authors and poets, many of them translated for the first time into English. It is also co-sponsor of the Saif Ghobash–Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation. As of December 2020, 69 issues of ''Banipal'' were published. She has lived in France, Italy, the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and the Arab world. After earning a MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington College, Vermont and a MPhil in English and Drama at the University of London, Handal began writing and translating global literature in the 1990s.
