Hockey Junior World Cup
The Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup, formerly known as the Hockey Junior World Cup, is an international field hockey competition organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The tournament was started in 1979. Since 1985 it has been held every four years.With the exception of the 2021 tournament,competitors must be under the age of 21 as of December 31 in the year before the tournament is held. There is also a corresponding event for the women's junior teams. This competition started in 1989 and uses the same format as the men's event. Five countries have dominated the event's history. Germany is the most successful team, having won the tournament six times followed by Argentina and India, having won the tournament two times. Australia and Pakistan have each won the tournament once. The 2009 Junior World Cup was held jointly between Malaysia and Singapore, with Germany defeating the Netherlands 3–1 in the final. 1979 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup
The 1979 Hockey Junior World Cup was the first edition of the Hockey Junior World Cup organized by FIH for national teams of players under the age of 21. The tournament was hosted in Versailles, France from 23 August to 2 September 1979. Pakistan won the inaugural tournament defeating West Germany 2–0 in the final. Background The International Hockey Federation was looking to expand the global exposure of the game through introducing new competitions under its own organization. The Junior Hockey World Cup was introduced six months after the introduction of the Hockey Champions Trophy. France hosted the first tournament and the trophy was called the ''Roger Danet Challenge Cup'' named after the President of FIH Roger Alain Danet. The 2005 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup was the eighth edition of the Men's Hockey Junior World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's national under-21 national field hockey teams organized by the International Hockey Federation. It was held from 29 June to 10 July 2005 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Argentina won their first title by defeating Australia 2–1 in the final. Penalty Shoot-out (field Hockey)
A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes. An alternate penalty shoot-out competition was introduced at major tournaments in 2011. Sometimes known as a penalty shuffle, the method is similar to penalty shots in ice hockey and consists of one-on-ones between an attacking player and a goalkeeper. Overtime (sports)
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game.
