Hocine Khalfi
Hocine Khalfi (January 7, 1928August 27, 2011) (commonly misspelled, "Hoacine") was an Algerian-French boxer from Oran, Algeria. He was orphaned at the age of seven and raised by his aunt. Khalfi, who started boxing at the age of 17, quickly rose through the ranks. He was the featherweight champion of Algeria in 1945. Named "Golden Glove," Hocine found himself in Paris where he began to deliver his first professional battles; He was only 18 years old. Over his 9-year career (1948–1957), Khalfi scored 16 knockouts. His final record was 47-22-7. Professional career Khalfi is best known for his May 1954 defeat of Sandy Saddler in major upset bout. Hocine Zaourar (born 18 December 1952), also known by the mononym Hocine, is an Algerian photojournalist. His photograph of a woman grieving after the Bentalha massacre in Algeria, dubbed the "Madonna of Bentalha", won both the World Press Photo of the Year and the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for war correspondents in 1998. Life and work Hocine took up photography in 1970. He joined Reuters as a photojournalist in 1989 and worked for Agence France-Presse from January 1993. Initially he worked in various countries, in particular Somalia, Rwanda and Zaire, but later worked entirely in Algeria. Hocine Yahi (born April 25, 1960 in El Madania, Algiers) is a retired Algerian international Association football, footballer who played at the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Hocine Soltani (December 1972 – March 2002) was an Algerian boxer, who won two Olympic medals. In 1992, the southpaw placed third in the featherweight division (54–57 kg), and at the 1996 Summer Olympics he won the gold medal in the lightweight division.
