Hochschule Für Musik Detmold
The Hochschule für Musik Detmold is a university-level music school situated in Detmold, Germany. Academics The Hochschule offers performance degrees in composition, all orchestral instruments, piano, voice, opera, art-song, conducting, as well as degrees in church music and music education. Artistic Music Production (Musik-Tonmeister) is also offered at the Institute. Structure In 2007 there were 594 students matriculated, plus an additional 22 junior students. The Hochschule offers about 300 concerts per year. The present director is Professor Martin Christian Vogel. In 2008 he was re-elected to a further appointment. Associate directors are professors André Stärk and Norbert Stertz. Hans Bertels was appointed chancellor in May 2007. In December 2006 the Hochschule für Music Detmold Foundation was formed to help finance extraordinary activities. Christina Brabetz (* born 8 October 1993 in Windhoek, Namibia) is a South African-German violinist. Biography Christina Brabetz, born in 1993, attended the German School in Cape Town and won her first musical awards in local and national competitions and was soon acclaimed as the „most promising candidate“. At the early age of eleven she was able to demonstrate her virtuosity by playing at the famous „Hugo Landbrechts Concert Festival“. Petra Schmidt
Petra Schmidt (born 18 March 1963) is a German operatic soprano and academic. A member of the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR), she has appeared in title roles such as Dvořák's Rusalka and Ponchielli's La Gioconda. She has also worked as a voice teacher at the Kassel University. Career Petra Schmidt was born in Nordhorn, West Germany. She studied music pedagogy at the Musikhochschule Würzburg from 1983 to 1985, and continued her voice studies at the Musikhochschule Detmold from 1987, with Ingeborg Ruß from 1993 to 1996. Marita Napier (nee Jacobs; 16 February 1939 – 10 April 2004) was a South African operatic soprano, known internationally as a performer of music by Strauss and Wagner. She performed in 19 productions of Wagner's ''Der Ring des Nibelungen''. In 1989, a recording of Wagner's ''Die Walküre'' with her in a Metropolitan Opera production was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. Geoffrey Moull is a Canadian professional conductor. He was principal conductor of the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra and music director of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Diether De La Motte
Diether de la Motte (30 March 1928 – 15 May 2010) was a German musician, composer, music theorist, music critic and academic teacher. Life Born in Bonn, de la Motte studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold from 1947 to 1950, composition with , choral conducting with Kurt Thomas, and piano. From 1950 to 1959 he was a lecturer for composition, theory of form and piano at the Düsseldorf Kirchenmusikschule. From 1955, he wrote music reviews for the ''Rheinische Post''. Helmut Kretschmar
Helmut Kretschmar (born 3 February 1928) is a German classical tenor who spent most of his career performing in concerts and recitals with major orchestras and at important music festivals internationally. Although he focused his career mainly within the concert repertoire, Kretschmar did appear two times on the opera stage, notably singing in the world premiere of Arnold Schoenberg's ''Moses und Aron'' in 1954. Possessing a rich and warm lyric tenor voice, Kretschmar excelled in the concert repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Joseph Haydn, and Felix Mendelssohn. Sándor Kónya
Sándor Kónya (23 September 1923 – 20 May 2002) was a Hungarian tenor, particularly associated with German and Italian roles, especially Lohengrin and Calaf. Biography Kónya was born in Sarkad, Hungary, and began his vocal studies at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, with Ferenc Székelyhidy. He completed his studies first in Detmold with Professor Frederick HusleIn 1946 two German businessmen (Anton Giesert and Alfons Lehmkuhle from Ostbevern) supported him financially after he gave a performance in Bielefeld shortly after the war. Matthias Kirschnereit (born 1962) is a German classical pianist. Life Born in Dorsten, Kirschnereit grew up in Namibia and later studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with Renate Kretschmar-Fischer. He was a prizewinner at renowned competitions in Germany and abroad, such as the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Bonn, the Concours Géza Anda in Zurich and the Sydney International Piano Competition. Volker David Kirchner (25 June 1942 – 4 February 2020) was a German composer and violist. After studies of violin and composition at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory, the Hochschule für Musik Köln and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, he worked for decades as a violist in the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt. He was simultaneously the violist in the Kehr Trio founded by his violin teacher Günter Kehr, and a composer of incidental music at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Dirk Kaftan (born 1971) is a German opera and concert conductor. Career Born in Marburg, West Germany, Kaftan grew up in Wittlich and Canada. At the age of 18 he began employment as a repetiteur at the Theater Trier. Kaftan then studied sound engineering (''Tonmeister'') at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. Mungonzazal Janshindulam ( mn, Янжиндуламын Мөнгөнцацал ''Yanjindulamyn Möngöntsatsal''; 1972–2007), also known as "Mungo", was a Mongolian pianist and music teacher who lived and taught until her death in Düsseldorf and Dortmund, Germany. She was the first Mongolian pianist to have widespread European fame and won multiple piano competition awards. It is unknown how she died.
