Lew Hoad
Lewis Alan Hoad (23 November 1934 – 3 July 1994) was an Australian tennis player whose career ran from 1950 to 1973. Hoad won four Major singles tournaments as an amateur (the Australian Championships, French Championships and two Wimbledons). He was a member of the Australian team that won the Davis Cup four times between 1952 and 1956. Hoad turned professional in July 1957. He won the Kooyong Tournament of Champions in 1958 and the Forest Hills Tournament of Champions in 1959. He won the Ampol Open Trophy world series of tournaments in 1959, which included the Kooyong tournament that concluded in early January 1960. Hoad's men's singles tournament victories spanned from 1951 to 1971. Hoad was ranked the world No. 1 amateur in 1953 by Harry Hopman, by Noel Brown and by the editors of Tennis de France, and also in 1956 by Lance Tingay, by Ned Potter, and by Tennis de France. John Charles Hoad
Major General Sir John Charles Hoad (25 January 1856 – 6 October 1911) was an Australian military leader, best known as the Australian Army's second Chief of the General Staff.Warren Perry'Hoad, Sir John Charles (1856–1911)' Australian Dictionary of Biography, Volume 9, Melbourne University Press, 1983, pp 311–312. Family John Hoad's parents were George Hoad, born in Winchelsea, Sussex, and Catherine Kearney, born Tipperary. They married in March 1851 at Goulburn, New South Wales. They had four sons and one daughter. Hoad was a talented athlete, excellent horseman, Australian rules footballer and cricketer. He married Sarah Denniston Sennetts, (née Brown), in Wangaratta on 22 December 1881. They had a daughter, who died as a child, and two sons. Teddy Hoad
Edward Lisle Goldsworthy Hoad (January 29, 1896 – March 5, 1986) was a West Indian cricketer who played in West Indies' inaugural Test tour of England. He was the captain in the West Indies' first home Test in 1930. In all he played four Tests. Hoad was born in Richmond, Saint Michael, Barbados. Although he had modest Test performances, he had some impressive results in first-class matches against English sides in both the 1928 and 1929-30 tours, scoring 149 not out against Worcestershire in 1928 and 147 for Barbados Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands.
