''Hiveswap'' is an episodic adventure game developed by What Pumpkin Games and overseen by Andrew Hussie and Cohen Edenfield. Based in the universe of Hussie's MS Paint Adventures webcomic ''Homestuck'', it focuses on a girl who is accidentally transported to the planet of Alternia—home of the troll species seen in ''Homestuck''. The game was the subject of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, raising over in funding. While development initially began with developers The Odd Gentlemen, it was eventually moved back in-house under What Pumpkin's own newly formed game development studio. Act 1 was slated for release in mid-2015; however, the release was postponed until January 2017. It was further delayed in January to an unspecified date. Homestuck
''Homestuck'' is an Internet fiction series created by American author and artist Andrew Hussie in the first half of the 2010s. The fourth and best-known of Hussie's four ''MS Paint Adventures'', it originally ran from April 13, 2009 to April 13, 2016. Though normally described as a webcomic, and partly constituted by a series of single panel pages, ''Homestuck'' also relied heavily on Flash animations and instant message logs to convey its story, along with occasional use of browser games. Its plot centers on a group of teens who unwittingly bring about the end of the world by installing the beta version of an upcoming computer game, Sburb. The teens soon come into contact with a group of Internet trolls who are revealed to be horned aliens, and these trolls work with the kids to create a new universe by completing the game. Andrew Hussie
Andrew Hussie (born August 25, 1979) is an American author and artist. He is best known as the creator of ''Homestuck'', a multimedia webcomic presented in the style of a text-based graphical adventure game, as well as other works in a similar style that were hosted on his website MS Paint Adventures. Career Early works Andrew Hussie began posting ''Jailbreak'' in 2006. This was posted on a discussion forum and took the appearance of a text-based graphical adventure game. Hussie would post simple drawings with text, and other forum users suggesting commands for the game that Hussie would quickly respond to with a rapidly drawn image. In 2007, Hussie created the website MS Paint Adventures to host his comics; its first three works were ''Jailbreak'', ''Bard Quest'', and ''Problem Sleuth''. Robert F. Fox (born October 11, 1991), known professionally as Toby Fox (previously Toby "Radiation" Fox), is an American video game developer and video game composer. He is known for developing the role-playing video games ''Undertale'' and ''Deltarune'' for which the former garnered acclaim and he received nominations for a British Academy Game Award and three Game Awards. ''MS Paint Adventures'', abbreviated ''MSPAdventures'' or ''MSPA'', was a website and collection of webcomics written and illustrated by Andrew Hussie. According to some estimates, ''MS Paint Adventures'' was the largest collection of comics on the Internet, containing over 10,000 pages among its five series thanks to its frequent updates. The comics were written in serial works or "adventures" in a manner that parodied interactive fiction games. The characters' actions were originally driven by commands suggested by fans in the comics' official forum, but fan suggestions were eventually abandoned due to the size of the fanbase and the author's desire to tell a more coherent story. The Odd Gentlemen is a video game developer founded by Matt Korba and Paul Bellezza in 2008. History Its first video game is '' The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom''. It was originally Matt Korba's graduate thesis at the University of Southern California. ''The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom'' is a puzzle platform game that boasted the company's quirky art style. It was published by 2K Play. They have also released a game in the PlayStation 3's social gaming network, PlayStation Home, called '' Slap Happy Sam''. In 2012, The Odd Gentlemen released their first iPhone game, ''Flea Symphony''. Author Neil Gaiman announced in June 2013 he would be making his first game with the help of The Odd Gentlemen. ''Homestuck'' is a webcomic written, illustrated, and animated by Andrew Hussie as part of ''MS Paint Adventures'' (''MSPA''). The webcomic centers on a group of teenagers who unwittingly bring about the end of the world through the installation of a beta copy of an upcoming computer game. ''Homestuck'' features a complex story and a large cast of characters, starring the four children John Egbert, Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley. ''Undertale'' is a 2015 2D role-playing video game created by American indie developer Toby Fox. The player controls a child who has fallen into the Underground: a large, secluded region under the surface of the Earth, separated by a magical barrier. The player meets various monsters during the journey back to the surface, although some monsters might engage the player in a fight. The combat system involves the player navigating through mini-bullet hell attacks by the opponent. They can opt to pacify or subdue monsters in order to spare them instead of killing them. These choices affect the game, with the dialogue, characters, and story changing based on outcomes.
