Hitz939
Hitz939 is a radio station operated by ARN in Bundaberg, Australia. Using the callsign 4RUM, Hitz939 is notable for being the first commercial FM licence in the Bundaberg region. Commencing broadcast on 29 March 1993 as a rock format station Hitz FM 93.9, the first song broadcast was "We Built This City" by Starship. Since then, the station has moved towards a Hot Adult Contemporary format, playing a mix of 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and new music appealing to a 25-40 audience. In November 2021, Hitz939, along with other stations owned by Grant Broadcasters, were acquired by the Australian Radio Network. This deal allows Grant's stations, including Hitz939, to access ARN's iHeartRadio platform in regional areas. The deal was finalized on January 4, 2022. It is expected Hitz939 will integrate with ARN's KIIS Network, but will retain its current name according to the press release from ARN. Bundaberg is a city in the Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia, and is the tenth largest city in the state. Bundaberg's regional area has a population of 70,921, and is a major centre of the Wide Bay–Burnett geographical region. Starship (band)
Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California. Initially a continuation of Jefferson Starship, it underwent a change in musical direction, the subsequent loss of personnel, and a lawsuit settlement that led to a name change. Starship's 1985 album, '' Knee Deep in the Hoopla'', was certified platinum by the RIAA, and included two singles that went to number one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart: " We Built This City" and "Sara". Grant Broadcasters is an Australian regional radio network. Founded in 1942, by 2019 it owned 53 radio stations. In 2022 it sold 46 to Here, There & Everywhere retaining shareholdings in seven in Canberra, Geelong, Goulburn and Perth. History Grant Broadcasters was founded by Walter Grant in 1942 when he bought 2DU in Dubbo. In 1972 a shareholding in 2ST in Nowra was purchased followed in 1979 by 2PK in Parkes and in 1982 2MG in Mudgee. In 1986 2DU, 2PK and 2MG were sold with full ownership taken of 2ST. Over the next three decades, the company expanded through acquisition, purchasing radio stations in all states and territories of Australia, owning 53 stations by November 2021. The KIIS Network is an Australian commercial radio stations owned and operated by the ARN. Formerly branded as the Mix Network, the network was rebranded as the KIIS Network in 2015 following the relaunch of KIIS 101.1 Melbourne. The KIIS Network is named after KIIS-FM, a Los Angeles-based radio station broadcast on the 102.7 MHz FM band.
