Charles Hitchen
Charles Hitchen, also mentioned as Charles Hitchin in other sources, (''c.'' 1675 – 1727) was a "thief-taker" (private policeman) and under-marshal of the City of London in the early 18th century, also, famously tried for homosexual acts and sodomitical offences. Alongside his former assistant and then a major rival Jonathan Wild, against whom he later published a pamphlet (The Regulator) and contributed to his sentencing to death, Hitchen blackmailed and bribed people and establishments irrespective of their reputation, suspicious or respectable. Despite the disgrace of the people he earned through his abusive exercising of his power, he remained in power and continued fighting against violent crime, especially after the ending of the war of the Spanish Succession and until 1727. Hitchen began his career with the ''Daily Despatch'' in Manchester as a copyboy, and then joined the ''Bury Times'' as a trainee reporter a year later. His followed in which he served in the Parachute Regiment during 1954–56.

Cedric Hitchen (3 July 1905 – 21 May 1975) was an English first-class cricketer and chemist. The son of Elias Hitchen and Betsy Halstead, he was born at Todmorden in July 1905. He was educated at Todmorden Secondary School, from there he studied applied chemistry at the University of Manchester. He later moved to British India with his wife, Louise, where he gained employment as an industrial chemist. Trevor Hitchen (born 25 September 1926) is an English former footballer who played in The Football League for Southport and Oldham Athletic. William Thomas Hitchen
During World War I, recruitment marches or snowball marches to state capital cities were a feature of volunteer recruiting drives for the Australian Imperial Force in rural Australia. Between October 1915 and February 1916, nine marches were held starting from various points in the state; the most notable was the first march from Gilgandra, New South Wales, known as the Cooee march. The March of the Dungarees took place in south-eastern Queensland in November 1915. In 1918, in an effort to promote recruitment, another march was staged, but this was less spontaneous and the marchers in fact travelled by train. The marches were called "snowball marches" in the hope that like a snowball rolling down a hill will pick up more snow, gaining more mass and surface area, and picking up even more snow as it rolls along, the marchers would also collect more marchers as they progressed to the recruiting depot.
