Hit Scene
''Hit Scene'', was an Australian popular music television series produced and broadcast by ABC TV in black and white transmission. The thirty-minute weekly series debuted on 10 May 1969 and was broadcast until 16 December 1972. History ''Hit Scene'' was developed by the ABC's Light Entertainment department, under the supervision of the Director of Television Programs, Ken Watts. The series was hosted by Melbourne radio announcer Dick Williams (Richard Arthur Williams (1931-2014). Williams had previously hosted ABC's '' Hit Parade'', which was broadcast only in Victoria as part of their Saturday afternoon ''Sportsview'' program, and was chief reviewer on Radio Australia's 'International Record Review' short wave service. Williams had come to the television hosting job having successfully auditioned in early 1964 based on years of radio work. ABC (Australian TV Channel)
ABC TV, formerly known as ABC1, is an Australian national public television network. It is owned and operated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is the flagship ABC Television network. The headquarters of the ABC TV channel and the ABC are in Ultimo, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. The network began operating on 5 November 1956 as the ABC National Television Service, starting in Sydney, followed by Melbourne, with other stations being established in state capitals and regional areas in the following years. In the 1960s and 1970s, the network was also referred to as ABC National Television, or ABC Television. Until the introduction of digital television in 2001, the network was the only domestic television service broadcast by the ABC. GTK (TV Series)
''GTK'' (standing for "Get to Know") was an Australian popular music TV series of ten minute episodes, produced and broadcast by ABC Television from 1969 to 1975. History The series title was an initialism of the phrase "Get To Know". Officially, it was said that ''GTK'' was created by the ABC to address the perception that the Australian youth audience was being poorly served by commercial radio and TV, and that international music and especially Australian popular music was being ignored by commercial TV and radio at that time. Ken Watts, ABC's Director of Television, had a problem at 6:30pm time slot. Because ABC-TV was non-commercial, 30-minute American programs only ran 24'30" without ad breaks, which created a programming problem when the commercial networks started their news broadcasts.
