Hisayo Fukumitsu
(born February 19, 1960) is a retired female high jumper from Japan. She competed for her native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, finishing in 17th place in the final rankings with a jump of 1.87 m. She earlier won the gold medal at the 1981 Asian Championships in Tokyo, in a new Asian record of 1.93 m. She was a three-time Japanese Championships champion (1980, 1982 and 1984). The ''Tokyo Mew Mew'' manga and anime series features a cast of characters designed by Mia Ikumi. The series takes place in Tokyo, Japan, where five adolescent girls, called Mew Mews, are infused with the DNA of endangered species to combat aliens attempting to take over the Earth. The manga series is followed by a short sequel series, ''Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode'', which introduces a new Mew Mew and a new threat. The Mew Mews are led by the main character, Ichigo Momomiya, whose first task is to gather the other four Mew Mews: Minto Aizawa, Retasu Midorikawa, Bu-Ling Huang, and Zakuro Fujiwara. Her novels include ''Harmless Like You'', which received a Betty Trask Award and the 2017 Author's Club First Novel Award, and ''Starling Days''. She is the editor of ''Go Home!'', an anthology of stories by Asian American writers. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2023. Early life and education Buchanan was born to a half-Chinese, half-Japanese American mother and a British father, and grew up between London and New York. Hisayo Sasaki Momose ( ja, 百瀬 寿代) is a Japanese electrical engineer specializing in semiconductor devices, including MOSFETs and CMOS image sensors. She is a researcher at the Toshiba Center for Semiconductor Research and Development in Kawasaki. Education and career Momose is originally from Gifu. She earned a master's degree in chemistry from Ochanomizu University in 1984, and began working for Toshiba in the same year.
