''His Family Tree'' is a 1935 comedy film directed by Charles Vidor. Plot Patrick Murphy, is a former Boatswain and fondly called Bosun. He is retired now, and owns a pub in Ireland. Down hearted because he hasn't heard from his son in America for years but happy because that night he leaves for America. In America his son has changed his name to Charles Murfee and is running for Mayor. Charles's wife is a snob who has created a fictional background where Charles' father is dead. She even has a portrait painted of Charles's father and had it hung over the fireplace in their elaborate living room. When Bosun arrives at Charles' house it is just after the family is informed Charles may lose the Irish vote if he did change his name from Murphy to Murfee. Up to this point we haven't met Charles. William Harrigan
William Harrigan (March 27, 1894 – February 1, 1966) was an American actor who performed in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s and on stage. Early years Harrigan was born in New York City and attended New York Military Academy. Harrigan was the son of actor Edward Harrigan and the grandson of composer David Braham. His sister was Nedda Harrigan, which made him the brother-in-law of director/playwright Joshua Logan. Harrigan first performed on stage when he was 5 years old, joining his father in a production of ''Reilly and the 400'' at the Garrick Theater. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. Herman Bing (March 30, 1889 – January 9, 1947) was a German-American character actor. He acted in more than 120 films and many of his parts were uncredited. Biography Bing was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He was son of the opera singer Max Bing (1865-1919) and Frieda Seckback (1869-1939), and brother of actor Gustav Bing (1893-1967), Clara Bing (1895-1976), and Erna Bing Swarzchild. He was married to Carla Lichtenstein and had one daughter. Bing began his career at the circus, at age 16, and vaudeville showing comedic talent. In 1921 he made his film debut in "Ciska Barna, die Zigeunerin". Marjorie Augusta Gateson (January 17, 1891 – April 17, 1977) was an American stage and film actress. Biography Gateson was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Augusta and Daniel Gateson. Her maternal grandfather and brother were clergymen; Some sources state her father was one too, but Axel Nissen in his book ''Mothers, Mammies and Old Maids: Twenty-Five Character Actresses of Golden Age Hollywood'' writes that he was a contractor. She attended the Packer Collegiate Institute and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, the latter being where her mother taught elocution. She believed her mother had "an inner longing for the stage", which she passed on to Marjorie, along with diction and poise. Addison Byron Owen Randall (May 12, 1906 – July 16, 1945) was an American film actor, chiefly in Westerns. He often used a pseudonym for his film work, chiefly Jack Randall, though he played roles as Allen Byron and Byron Vance too. Early life Randall was born May 12, 1906, in San Fernando, California as Addison Byron Owen Randall. He attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. The reference book ''Who's Who in Hollywood'' gives Randall's place of birth as Quincy, Illinois.
