	Hirschsprung, Germany Hirschsprung is a village and a former municipality in the eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony, Germany. It is south of Dresden, from Czech Republic, Czech border. Since 1965 it has been part of the town of Altenberg, Saxony, Altenberg. History Foundation First documented writing about the area around is dated 1464. It was signed by the knight Walzig at his castle Bärenstein. In 1491 a road from Altenberg, Saxony, Altenberg on Dippoldiswalde to Dresden has been created. The settlement is mentioned in old documents in 1747 as Hirschbrunn and Hirschsprung. The first house of settlement was a forester's house. Over time the name has passed from the legend to a place in the valley. Description The name means "stag leap" and it is a narrow, gorge-like section of the ravine-shaped central portion of the Höllental ("hell valley") with rock faces up to 130 metres high. It is also called the ''Höllenpass'' ("hell pass"). It is located on the parish boundary between Breitnau and Buchenbach. The Hirschsprung gorge was only 9 metres wide before the upgrade of the road. The southern Hirschsprung rocks have been tunnelled under by the ''Jägerpfad'' ("Jäger’s path"), which ran alongside the Höllenbach (or Rotbach) stream, but has been closed since 2009 due to the danger of falling rocks and rockface collapse. Biography Early life Pinchas Hirschprung was born in 1912 to Leah (née Zehmin) and Rabbi Chaim Hirschprung in the Galician shtetl Dukla (now located in Poland). His grandfather, Rabbi Dovid Tzvi (Tevli) Zehmin, a Chortkov Ḥasid best known for his work ''Sefer Minḥat Solet'', served as the town's '' av beit din''. It is located in a parkland setting in Østre Anlæg, near the Danish National Gallery, and houses a large collection of Danish art from the 19th and early 20th century.
