Hira Naveed
Hira Naveed (born 3 February 1998) is an Australian professional golfer and LPGA Tour player. She was runner-up at the 2024 Ford Championship. Early life and amateur career Naveed was born in New Zealand and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. In 2015, she won the Dunes Medal and the Victorian Junior Masters, and was named Western Australia Junior Girls Golfer of the Year. Naveed played collegiate golf at Pepperdine University between 2015 and 2019 and was a four-time All- WCC first team pick. She was West Coast Conference Player of the Year and All-American as a senior after winning the West Coast Conference Championship. She was a member of the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup international team. Professional career Naveed turned professional in 2019 and won the Long Beach Open on the Cactus Tour in her professional debut. The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. The Australian Women's Interstate Teams Matches were an amateur team golf competition for women between the states of Australia. From 1933 it was contested for the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup. The final format was a round-robin tournament, each team playing the other five teams, after which the top two teams play a final. Each team consisted of six players. Five competed in each round-robin contest with all six playing in the final. Only singles matches were played. The Evian Championship, currently known for sponsorship reasons as The Amundi Evian Championship, is a women's professional golf tournament in France, played at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains. It was originally held in June, moved to July in 2003, and moved again to September in 2013. It returned to a July date in 2019. Founded in 1994 on the Ladies European Tour (LET) as the Evian Masters, it is one of two major championships on the LET. The Women's PGA Championship (branded as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship for sponsorship reasons) is a women's professional golf tournament. First held in 1955, it is one of five majors on the LPGA Tour. The Chevron Championship is a professional women's golf tournament. An event on the LPGA Tour, it is one of the tour's five major championships, and has traditionally been the first of the season since its elevation to major status in 1983.
