Ken Hinchey
Ken Hinchey (September 9, 1912 – April 21, 1994) was an American entrepreneur and politician who served one term as Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska from 1955 to 1956. Early life Ken Hinchey was born September 9, 1912, in Fern Hill, Tacoma, Washington. Career Hinchey started a number of businesses in Alaska, including Northern Transfer, the Black and White Restaurant, Alaska Aggregate Corporation, Idealaska Cement, and Pacific Western Lines. He also mined gold in Hope, invented machines, and transported oil from Valdez to Fairbanks for the military during World War II. He was an avid bush pilot. Hinchey was elected to a single term mayor of Anchorage in 1955. He advocated statehood for the Territory of Alaska and building a dam on the Cook Inlet causeway. Margaret Hinchey
Margaret Hinchey (19 October 1873 – 29 February 1944) was an American suffragist, labor organizer, and leader. She was publicly active in these causes between 1912 and 1917. Biography She was born on the 19 October 1873 at Coolready, Bodyke parish, county Clare, to Thomas Hinchy and Mary Moloney as the eldest daughter of eight children. She emigrated to New York City in 1892 and worked in a laundry. In February 1914, Hinchey spoke at the White House in Washington D.C. for a meeting of the Equal Suffrage League, recounting her meeting (along with 35 other women suffragists) with President Woodrow Wilson to push for women's suffrage. By 1920 she was working as a domestic servant. Due to her actions in activism, in May of 1940, Hinchey was not allowed to participate at her local church due to the fact that they didn't like her voicing out on women's suffrage and why they deserve more rights. Maurice Hinchey
Maurice Dunlea Hinchey (October 27, 1938 – November 22, 2017) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from New York and was a member of the Democratic Party. He retired at the end of his term in January 2013 after 20 years in Congress. A New York City native who moved to the Hudson Valley where he attended high school and college, Hinchey had previously represented part of the area in the New York State Assembly since 1975. As chair of that body's Environmental Conservation Committee, he took the lead in bringing environmental issues to the fore, particularly when he held hearings on the problems created by toxic waste disposal in the Love Canal neighborhood of Niagara Falls. In his later years in Congress, he opposed hydraulic fracturing to exploit the natural gas resources of the Marcellus Shale.
