Hina Bokhari
Hina Bokhari (born 10 August 1975) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. Early life Bokhari was born in Enfield, north London. She is the daughter of Nawazish "Naz" Bokhari and Rizwana Bokhari and is of Pakistani descent. Hina's younger brother, Harris Bokhari, is a charity founder . Her Punjabi-born father Naz was the first British Muslim to run a secondary school in the UK; he was headteacher of Ernest Bevin College and was awarded an OBE for services to education in the 2001 Birthday Honours.Current London Mayor Sadiq Khan was one of his students Career Prior to becoming politically active, Bokhari worked as a teacher for 20 years in London schools. She has also founded two youth focused charities. She is now a councillor in Merton. Sutton and Cheam is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Paul Scully, a Conservative. Political history The area's voters produced a 32.6% swing to the Liberal Party in the 1972 by-election. 2004 London Assembly Election
An election to the Assembly of London took place on 10 June 2004, along with the 2004 London mayoral election. The Assembly is elected by the Additional Member System. There are fourteen directly elected constituencies, nine of which were won by the Conservatives and five by the Labour Party. An additional eleven members were allocated by a London wide top-up vote, with the proviso that parties must win at least 5% of the vote to qualify for list seats. This latter rule prevented both the British National Party and the Respect Party from winning a seat each as both fell just short of the 5% threshold. 2021 London Assembly Election
The 2021 London Assembly election was held on 6 May 2021 to elect the members of the London Assembly, alongside the 2021 London mayoral election. The mayoral and Assembly elections were originally to be held on 7 May 2020, but on 13 March 2020 it was announced the election would be postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the sixth election since the assembly was established in 2000. Due to the previous term being extended to 5 years, those elected will serve only a three-year term until the next election in 2024.
