Hilmar Jensson
Hilmar Jensson (born 1966) is an Icelandic guitarist. Biography Jensson picked up the guitar at a young age. He studied at the FIH music school in Iceland from 1982 and then in 1991 attended the Berklee College of Music, in Boston. During this time he took in private lessons with Mick Goodrick, Jerry Bergonzi, and Hal Crook. He then returned to Iceland, but from 1993 to 1994 he studied with Joe Lovano in New York. As sideman he has collaborated with Tim Berne, Wadada Leo Smith, Kevin Drumm, Herb Robertson, Trevor Dunn, Greg Bendian, Chris Speed, Briggan Krauss, Jamie Saft, Cuong Vu, Rafael Toral, Carlos Zingaro, Tom Rainey, Ben Perowsky, Per Jørgensen, Eyvind Kang, Arve Henriksen and Ståle Storløkken, among others. Moers Festival
The Moers Festival is an annual international music festival in Moers, Germany. The festival has changed from concentrating on free jazz to including world and pop music, though it still invites many avant-garde jazz musicians. Performers at Moers include Lester Bowie, Fred Frith, Jan Garbarek, Herbie Hancock, Abdullah Ibrahim, David Murray, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, and Cecil Taylor. Carlos Zingaro
Carlos Zíngaro (or Carlos "Zíngaro" Alves, born 15 December 1948 in Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese violinist and electronic musician active in free improvisation. Biography Zingaro studied classical music at the Lisbon Music Conservatory from 1953 to 1965, and during the years 1967/68 he studied pipe organ at the Sacred Music High School and did studies on musicology and electroacoustic music. Also, during the 1960s, he was a member of the Lisbon University Chamber Orchestra. In 1967 he formed the musical group PLEXUS. Kjartan Ólafsson (composer)
Kjartan Ólafsson (born 18 November 1958) is an Icelandic musicologist, composer and academic. He is the creator of the composing software CALMUS and has worked on the use of artificial intelligence in classical music composition. Life and education A native of Reykjavík, Kjartan Ólafsson spent from 1976 to 1989 studying music, composition and natural sciences at the Music College of Kópavogur, Hamrahliðar College, Reykjavík College of Music, Utrecht Conservatory and Sibelius Academy. Andrew D'Angelo
Andrew D'Angelo (born November 2, 1965) is an American jazz musician. Career D'Angelo was raised in Seattle, where he met Chris Speed and Jim Black, before he moved to New York City in 1985. He worked again with Speed in Boston, where they collaborated with the guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel in the band Human Feel. He also played in the Either/Orchestra. The band members then moved to Brooklyn in the early 1990s. D'Angelo played in the bands of Erik Friedlander, Bobby Previte, Jamie Saft/Cuong Vu, Reid Anderson, and Ed Schuller in the band Orange Then Blue and began a long collaboration with the drummer Matt Wilson. Jim Black
Jim Black is an American jazz drummer who has performed with Tim Berne and Dave Douglas. He attended Berklee College of Music. Career His band AlasNoAxis includes Hilmar Jensson on electric guitar, Chris Speed on tenor saxophone and clarinet, and Skúli Sverrisson on bass guitar. The music is in some ways closer to post-rock than jazz, concentrating on rhythmic shifts and ensemble texture rather than featured solos. Since 2000 Winter & Winter has released several of the band's albums. Pachora includes Black, Speed, Sverrisson, and Brad Shepik on tambura and electric saz. This band plays music that is rhythmically diverse and inspired by Balkan rhythms. Black participated as drummer 12 in the Boredoms 77 Boadrum performance on July 7, 2007 at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, New York. Ståle Storløkken (born 22 February 1969 in Dombås, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (keyboards, organ and piano) and composer, known for collaborations with artists like Terje Rypdal, BigBang, Supersilent and Motorpsycho. Arve Henriksen (born 22 March 1968) is a Norwegian trumpeter. Career Henriksen was born in Stranda and educated on the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium; he later studied music pedagogy, while he played in «Bodega Band» (1987–88), «Luft» (1987–89), «Veslefrekk» from 1989, «Close Enough» 1990–92, «Nutrio» from 1990, and recorded with Bjørn Alterhaug and «Tre Små Kinesere» (1990). Eyvindur Y. Kang (born 23 June 1971) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist. His primary instrument is viola, but has also performed on violin, tuba, keyboards and others. In addition to his solo work, Kang has worked extensively with Bill Frisell and John Zorn. Biography Eyvindur Y. Kang was born 23 June 1971 in Corvallis, Oregon, United States.
