Premier Foods plc is a British food manufacturer headquartered in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The group owns many well-known brands, including Mr Kipling, Ambrosia, Bird's Custard, Angel Delight, Homepride cooking sauces, Lyons, Sharwood's, Loyd Grossman sauces, Oxo, Bisto, Batchelors and Plantastic. Premier Foods also produce cakes under the Cadbury's name, using the brand under licence. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. History Formation The company was founded by Harry Solomon and David Thompson in London in 1975 as Hillsdown Holdings. The name came from Thompson's house, Hillsdown. His son Richard Thompson worked for his father after his education at Haileybury. In 1981 it acquired ''Lockwood Foods Ltd'' which was in administrative receivership. Batchelors
Batchelors is a popular brand of predominantly dried food products. The Bachelors company was founded in 1895 in Sheffield, England by William Batchelor, initially specialising in canned vegetables. It released its first dried soup in 1949, and it started selling its convenience Cup-a-Soup range in 1972. The company now makes pasta and rice dishes like "Pasta 'n' Sauce" and "Super Rice" along with instant soup, in particular Cup-a-Soup and noodle products such as '' Super Noodles''. The company is the UK market leader in dried soups. Since early 2008, the Batchelors name has also been applied to Premier Foods' condensed soup range, previously sold as Campbell's. Colman's
Colman's is an English manufacturer of mustard and other sauces, formerly based and produced for 160 years at Carrow, in Norwich, Norfolk. Owned by Unilever since 1995, Colman's is one of the oldest existing food brands, famous for a limited range of products, almost all being varieties of mustard. History In the early 1800s, Jeremiah Colman began making mustard at a water mill near Norwich in the village of Bawburgh. Sir Paul Rupert Judge (25 April 1949 – 21 May 2017) was an English business and political figure. He served as Chairman of the Royal Society of Arts, President of the Chartered Management Institute, and Deputy Chairman of the American Management Association. He also served as the Director General of the Conservative Party and a Ministerial Advisor to the Cabinet Office. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. The Beecham Group plc was a British pharmaceutical company. It was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. Beecham, after having merged with American pharmaceutical company SmithKline Beckman to become SmithKline Beecham, merged with Glaxo Wellcome to become GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). David Brian Thompson (4 April 1936 – 29 December 2020) was the co-founder of Hillsdown Holdings, one of the United Kingdom's largest food businesses. Career Having initially worked as a meat trader at Smithfield Market, David Thompson helped his father to float his meat wholesaling business in 1966. He co-founded Hillsdown Holdings in 1975 and then, in 1989, sold his stake in the business for £500m.
