The Hillsboro School District 1J is a unified school district located in Hillsboro, Oregon, Hillsboro, Oregon, United States. The district operates 26 elementary schools, four middle schools, and four high schools. Founded in 1851, the school district covers Hillsboro, Scholls, Oregon, Scholls, Reedville, Oregon, Reedville, North Plains, Oregon, North Plains, West Union, Oregon, West Union, and other area communities. Total enrollment as of the 2019–2020 school year is 20,269 students, the fourth largest in the state. Horace Lyman
Horace Lyman (November 16, 1815 – March 31, 1887) was a reverend and professor of mathematics in the U.S. state of Oregon. He was born in Massachusetts, and came to Oregon by way of New York and Cape Horn in October 1848. He married Mary Dennison the next month. He established a school in Portland in 1849, and helped establish the Hillsboro School District in Hillsboro in 1851. He was a founder of Portland's First Congregational Church in June 1851. He was founding secretary of LaCreole Academic Institutue near Dallas, Oregon in 1856. Lyman served as Hillsboro's first commissioner, and later its school superintendent. Hillsboro High School (colloquially known as Hilhi) is a public high school in Hillsboro, Oregon, United States, and is the oldest high school in the Hillsboro School District. The current campus was built beginning in 1969. Prior to this, the first campus opened in 1913 at 3rd Avenue and Grant Street; the second campus, built in 1928, was located downtown at 6th Avenue and Lincoln Street, where J.B. Thomas Middle School stood until 2009. Currently 1,195 students attend the school in grades 9–12. The official school colors are blue and white with red and black as accents, and the mascot is the Spartan.
