Hillric J. Bonn
John Hillric Bonn (1829 – November 15, 1891) was the first president of the North Hudson County Railway and remained so until his death in 1891, a period of twenty-six years. He also was one of the founders of the Eldorado Amusement Park in Weehawken, New Jersey. Biography He was born in 1829 in Friesland, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. He migrated to the United States in 1857 and married Angelique Bonjer. He founded and became the first president of the North Hudson County Railway in 1865. On October 18, 1891, it was announced that the Hoboken Land and Improvement Company was purchasing his holdings for $2,500,000 (approximately $ today). North Hudson County Railway
The North Hudson Railway Company built and operated a streetcar system in Hudson County and southeast Bergen County, New Jersey before and after the start of the 20th century. It was founded by Hillric J. Bonn who became the first President in 1865 and served for 26 years until his death, and eventually taken over by the Public Service Railway. In its endeavors to overcome the formidable obstacle of ascending the lower Hudson Palisades, or Bergen Hill, it devised numerous innovative engineering solutions including funicular wagon lifts, an inclined elevated railway, an elevator and viaducts. Eldorado Amusement Park
Eldorado Amusement Park was a 25-acre (10.12 ha) amusement park that opened in 1891 in the Highwood Park section of Weehawken, New Jersey. It operated as an amusement grounds through 1894, after which time the main building, the Casino, was used to host boxing matches and other athletic events and vaudeville performances. A massive fire in the early morning of November 4, 1898, destroyed the building. Founding Eldorado was formed by local prominent political and business leaders through the creation of the Palisades Amusement and Exhibition Company with Bolossy Kiralfy, one of the Kiralfy Brothers, being named as General Manager/Amusement Director. Hoboken Historical Museum
The Hoboken Historical Museum, founded in 1986, is located in Hoboken, New Jersey and presents rotating exhibitions and activities related to the history, culture, architecture and historic landmarks of the city. The Hoboken Land and Improvement Company Building, is located in Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The building was designed by Charles Fall and was built by Myles Tierney in 1889.
