Hildesheim Hauptbahnhof (German for ''Hildesheim Central Station'') is the main railway station for the city of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony, Germany. The station opened in 1961 and is located on the Lehrte–Nordstemmen, Hildesheim–Brunswick and Hildesheim–Goslar railway. The train services are operated by DB Fernverkehr, Erixx, Metronom and NordWestBahn. History The first Hildesheim station was opened by the Royal Hanoverian State Railways as the terminus of the Lehrte–Nordstemmen line—the southern arm of its '' Cross railway''—on 12 July 1846 to the north of the present Kaiserstraße, near the current Bahnhofsallee. After the opening of the Hanoverian Southern Railway the Cross railway was extended on 15 September 1853 to Nordstemmen Station on the Southern Railway. The reception building of the first Hildesheim railway station was a half-timbered building with a slate roof. Hildesheim (; nds, Hilmessen, Hilmssen; la, Hildesia) is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany with 101,693 inhabitants. It is in the district of Hildesheim, about southeast of Hanover on the banks of the Innerste River, a small tributary of the Leine River. The Holy Roman Emperor Louis the Pious founded the Bishopric of Hildesheim in 815 and created the first settlement with a chapel on the so called ''Domhügel''. Hildesheim is situated on autobahn route 7, and hence is at the connection point of the North (Hamburg and beyond) with the South of Europe. Hannover Hauptbahnhof (German for ''Hanover main station'') is the main railway station for the city of Hanover in Lower Saxony, Germany. The railway junction is one of the 21 stations listed as a railway Category 1 station by DB Station&Service. It is also the most important public transport hub of the region of Hanover and it is served regional and S-Bahn services. The station has six platforms with twelve platform tracks, and two through tracks without platforms. Hanover–Würzburg High-speed Railway
The Hanover–Würzburg high-speed railway was the first of several high-speed railway lines for InterCityExpress traffic that were built in Germany. Hildesheim Ost (east) station at Immengarten in the Hildesheim district of Oststadt (east town) is a station on the Hildesheim–Goslar railway in the German state of Lower Saxony. History In the early 1870s, a station was built by the Magdeburg–Halberstadt Railway Company (german: Magdeburg-Halberstädter Eisenbahngesellschaft, MHE) as the ''Bahnhof am Friesentore'' (station at Friesentore) and later operated as the ''Altenbekener Bahnhof'' (station of the Altenbeken Railway). The first freight train left it on 19 May and the first passenger train left it on 30 June 1875 at a cruising speed of 30 km/h. The station was necessary because the HAE was not allowed to use the state railway station (close to the current Hildesheim Hauptbahnhof). In 1880, the HAE was nationalised.
