Hilda Stevenson-Delhomme
Marie Hilda Stevenson-Delhomme CBE (née Stevenson; March 8, 1912 January 4, 2002) was a Seychellois politician and medical doctor. She was the Seychelles' first female politician. Early life and education Born as Marie Hilda Stevenson on March 8, 1912, she was the only daughter of Ti Jean Stevenson Amelia Stevenson. She started her early education at the Convents in Victoria, Seychelles and Ayrshire, Scotland. She obtained her first degree at Skerry's College before proceeding to study medicine. She is a licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Surgeons. Career In 1939, Stevenson-Delhomme returned to the Seychelles where she practiced medicine until in 1944 when she returned to Scotland in order to further her education. Mahé, Seychelles
Mahé is the largest island of Seychelles, with an area of , lying in the northeast of the Seychellean nation in the Somali Sea part of the Indian Ocean. The population of Mahé was 77,000, as of the 2010 census. It contains the capital city of Victoria and accommodates 86% of the country's total population. The island was named after Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais, a French governor of Isle de France (modern-day Mauritius). History Mahé was first visited by the British in 1609 and not visited by Europeans again until Lazare Picault's expedition of 1742. The French navy frégate '' Le Cerf'' (English: The Deer) arrived at Port Victoria on 1 November 1756.
