Hilal Elver
Hilal Elver is a member of the Academic Council of the UN Least Developed Countries (2011-2021) and was the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food from 2 June 2014 until 1 May 2020. She is also a research professor at University of California, Santa Barbara and Global Distinguished Fellow at the Resnick Food Law and Policy Center UCLA Law School. The United States was not happy with her appointment as Special Rapporteur, citing: Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird also spoke out, notifying UNHRC president Baudelaire Ndong Ella that her "public record clearly demonstrates abysmal judgment, as well as associations with fringe groups." United Nations Special Rapporteur On The Right To Food
The Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food is a Special Rapporteur who works for the United Nations and reports on the right to food. The mandate was established in 2000 by the former Commission on Human Rights which appointed the first Rapporteur, Dr. Jean Ziegler. In 2008 the second Rapporteur, Dr. Olivier De Schutter, was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council, the successor to the Commission. In 2014 the third Rapporteur, Hilal Elver was appointed. In 2020, the current Rapporteur, Michael Fakhri, was appointed. John Baird (Canadian Politician)
John Russell Baird (born May 26, 1969) is a retired Canadian politician. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2015 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He had been a member of the federal cabinet, in various positions, since 2006. Previously he was a provincial cabinet minister in Ontario during the governments of Premiers Mike Harris and Ernie Eves. Baird resigned from Harper's cabinet on February 3, 2015, and as a Member of Parliament on March 16, 2015.
