{{short description, Overview of highways in Peru The primary highways of Peru are assigned using a numeric designation and sometimes a name. Spur and loop routes are designated with the parent highway's number and a letter (excluding N or more than one occurrence of S). Longitudinal highways (travelling north to south) are designated with odd numbers. They are numbered from smallest to largest from the west to the east. Peru Highway 1
Peru Highway 1, most widely known as Carretera Panamericana, is the most important highway in Peru. This road is the Peruvian portion of the Pan-American Highway. It runs north–south through the whole length of the country and connects all major cities in the country's coastal area. The northern terminus of the highway is located in the Macará International Bridge (Piura Region) at the border with Ecuador. Starting in this point, the highway is known as ''Carretera Panamericana Norte'' ("North Pan-American Highway") until it reaches a point located in central Lima, the country's capital. Arequipa
Arequipa (; Aymara and qu, Ariqipa) is a city and capital of province and the eponymous department of Peru. San Vicente De Cañete
San Vicente de Cañete, commonly known as San Vicente or Cañete, is a city and capital of the Cañete Province, in southern Lima Region. With a population of 85,533 (2015 estimate). The warm and peaceful town of Cañete is located just one and a half hour to the south of Lima (144 km) and serves, for tourists, primarily as a gateway to the Lunahuaná, Lunahuaná District.
