There are various highways and routes in the Dominican Republic. They are built and maintained by the Ministry of Public Works and Communication (Spanish: ''Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Comunicaciones'') or MOPC. Overall the system is centered around Greater Santo Domingo, where the country's capital is located. According to MOPC there are 1,395 km (867 miles) of main highways, 2,412 km (1,499 miles) of secondary highways and 1,620 km (1,007 miles) of terciary or regional highways. Punta Cana is a resort town in the easternmost region of the Dominican Republic. DR-7
The DR-7, also known as the Santo Domingo-Samana Highway or simply Samana Highway, is the newest addition to the Dominican Republic national highway system. Route description The highway starts with the Autopista Las Américas DR-3 (30 km east of Santo Domingo) and ends at the intersection Cruce Rincón de Molinillos, Samaná Province. There are three different toll booths: the first one 300 metres after the southern start of the highway; the second one at km marker 16; and the third one was built in La Reforma, right before Samaná and the Cruce Rincón de Molinillos intersection. San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic
San Cristóbal is a city in the southern region of Dominican Republic. It is the municipal (''municipio'') capital of the San Cristóbal province. The municipality is located in a valley at the foothills of the mountains belonging to the Cordillera Central, between the Nigua and Nizao rivers. DR-6
DR-6 is a designated dual-carriageway highway in the Dominican Republic and gives Santo Domingo a fast connection to the southwestern part of the republic bypassing the city of Bajos de Haina, and San Cristobal. Unlike DR-2 which takes a local route through the center of Haina and San Cristobal, DR-6 bypasses the towns slightly to the north making it easier and faster for travelers to reach destinations farther west of San Cristobal. After bypassing San Cristobal it merges with DR-2 and ends. DR-2 continues to the western towns of the nation. DR-5
DR-5 is of one of the main highways in the Dominican Republic. The highway begins at a T-interchange with DR-1 in Villa Bisonó in the small town of Navarrete located about 20 kilometers northwest of Santiago de los Caballeros. Its endpoint is the municipal district Las Galeras. Initially DR-5 starts north of Santiago with a junction with DR-1. DR-1 continues northwest to Monte Cristi while DR-5 turns northeast to the Cities of Puerto Plata, Sosua, and its ending point at the Samana Province.
