Highway B-29 Bridge
The Highway B-29 Bridge is a historic bridge in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. It is a single-span concrete arch bridge, carrying Washington County Route 623 across the Illinois River. The arch has a span of , and the total structure length is . Its deck is wide, and the bridge is typically above the water. Built in 1923, the bridge is one of the first built in the county by the Luten Bridge Company, which used an innovative technique involving metal rings (polished for visual effect on this bridge) that reduced the amount of material required for the structure. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Prairie Grove, Arkansas
Prairie Grove is a city in Washington County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 4,380 at the 2010 Census. It is part of the Northwest Arkansas region, and home to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. History Prairie Grove was the site of the Battle of Prairie Grove during the American Civil War. Confederate forces under General Thomas C. Hindman attempted to prevent the juncture of two Federal forces under Generals James G. Blunt and Francis J. Herron. The result of the battle was a tactical stalemate which assured permanent Union control of northwest Arkansas. The battlefield is now a State Military Park. A post office has been in operation at Prairie Grove since 1867. Prairie Grove was platted in 1877. A 100-foot wind turbine near Prairie Grove was installed in the early 2000s. Illinois River (Oklahoma)
The Illinois River is a tributary of the Arkansas River in the U.S. states of Arkansas and Oklahoma. The Osage Indians named it ''Ne-eng-wah-kon-dah'', which translates as "Medicine Stone River." Luten Bridge Company
Luten Bridge Company and variations such as Luten Engineering Company was the name of a number of different bridge building companies in the United States during the early- to mid-20th century. Each had rights to build concrete Luten arch bridges, according to the patented designs of Daniel B. Luten, of Indianapolis. One that distributed a brochure in 1921 and that was prolific in Tennessee had offices in York, Pennsylvania, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, in Huntington, West Virginia, in Atlanta, Georgia, and in Palatka, Florida. It built the seven span Harriman Bridge in Tennessee. The Luten Bridge Company is documented to have built 71 bridges in Tennessee.
