Highfield Football Club was a football club based in Waltham Abbey, England. History In 1945, Highfield were formed, joining the Enfield Alliance League. In 1963, Highfield joined the London League from the Northern Suburban Intermediate League. In 1971, Highfield joined the Metropolitan–London League, becoming founder members in the process. In 1975, Highfield joined the London Spartan League. In 1981, Highfield joined the FA Vase for the first time. In 1984, Highfield left the London Spartan League and folded following the loss of their Abbey Road ground to housing. Ground During the early days of the football club, Highfield played at Willoughby Lane in Tottenham. Highfield later moved to the Northmet Sports Ground in Enfield. In the late 1970s, Highfield moved to Abbey Road in Waltham Abbey. Waltham Abbey
Waltham Abbey is a town and civil parish in the Epping Forest District of Essex, within the metropolitan and urban area of London, England, north-east of Charing Cross. It lies on the Greenwich Meridian, between the River Lea in the west and Epping Forest in the east, with large sections forming part of the Metropolitan Green Belt. The town borders Nazeing and Epping Upland to the north, Chingford to the south, Loughton, Theydon Bois and Buckhurst Hill to the east and south-east, and Waltham Cross, Cheshunt and Enfield to the west. Historically an ancient parish named Waltham Holy Cross in the Waltham hundred of Essex, it became a local government district in 1850, and was granted urban district status in 1894. Whilst the use of the name Waltham Abbey for the town dates back to the 16th century at the earliest, the parish itself was not renamed until 1974, when the Waltham Holy Cross Urban District was abolished and succeeded by Waltham Abbey Town Council. Greater London League
The Greater London League was a football league for clubs in and around London. It was formed in 1964 by a merger of the London League and the Aetolian League, after the two leagues had run a joint league cup the previous season due to both struggling for numbers. History The league initially ran with A and B sections, before being divided into a Premier Division and First Division in 1965. In 1967 the divisions were renamed Division One and Division Two. A reduction in the number of clubs saw a single division formed for the 1969–70 season, and although it lost another club at the end of the season, it was split back into two sections the following season. At the end of the 1970–71 season it merged with the Metropolitan League (which had lost several clubs to the Southern League) to form the Metropolitan–London League.
