The office of High Sheriff of South Glamorgan was established in 1974 as part of the creation of the county of South Glamorgan in Wales following the Local Government Act 1972. Together with the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan and the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan, the office effectively replaced that of the High Sheriff of Glamorgan. This page is a list of High Sheriffs of Glamorgan. Sheriffs of Glamorgan served under and were answerable to the independent Lords of Glamorgan until that lordship was merged into the crown. This is in contrast to sheriffs of the English shires who were from the earliest times officers of the crown. Sheriffs in the modern sense, appointed and answerable to the crown, were instituted in the county of Glamorgan in 1541. John Leonard, Baron Leonard
John Denis Leonard, Baron Leonard, OBE (19 October 1909 – 17 July 1983) was a British Labour Party politician. Leonard was born in Manorhamilton, Ireland, the son of an Irish journalist. He emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1939, where he set up an engineering firm in Cardiff. He was elected to the Cardiff City Council in 1970, and to the South Glamorgan County Council in 1974, serving as its chairman between 1976 and 1977. He was appointed an OBE in 1976. On 2 May 1978, Leonard was made a life peer, as Baron Leonard, of the City of Cardiff in the County of South Glamorgan. He served as a Lord in Waiting between 1978 and 1979. Dale Owen
Ivan Dale Owen (2 August 1924 – 12 November 1997) was a Welsh architect in the modernist architectural style. The Glamorgan Archives and ''The Independent'' newspaper both described him as a 'leading figure in Welsh architecture'. He was a partner in the Percy Thomas Partnership before setting up his own architectural practice with his wife in Penarth in 1989. Among Owen's designs were BBC Broadcasting House, Cardiff, the entrance building and galleries of St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff, plus major developments at Cardiff University, Swansea University and Aberystwyth University. Arun Daniel Midha (born 24 April 1964) is a British academic, who has sat as a lay member on the General Medical Council and currently sits on the Audience Council Wales and the Welsh Language Board, having learnt the language as an adult. Education Midha was educated at Gowerton Comprehensive School, Exeter College, Oxford, Cardiff Business School and Swansea University. He completed his PhD in the 1990s.
