High Point-Thomasville HiToms
The High Point-Thomasville HiToms are a baseball team in the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer baseball league. The HiToms plays its home games at Historic Finch Field in Thomasville, North Carolina. The HiToms were one of the earlier teams to compete in the Coastal Plain League and started competing during the 1999 season. During their inaugural season, the team composed a record of 21 wins and 26 losses. The HiToms currently play in the West Division of the CPL, and are three-time Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Champions. History The team's name dates back to a team that was shared by the High Point and Thomasville communities in the Carolina League (1954– 1958, 1968). Coastal Plain League
The Coastal Plain League (CPL) is a wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league, featuring college players recruited from throughout the nation. The league takes its name from the Class D level Coastal League which operated in the area from 1937 to 1952. History The modern Coastal Plain League was formed with six teams in 1997. The league has expanded over the years with teams across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia, with the 2023 addition of the Boone Bigfoots being the most recent expansion, bringing the league to 14 teams. Founding The league was founded in 1997 by Pete Bock. Bock conceived the idea in the early 1990s while traveling long distances to the Valley Baseball League in Virginia to see his son, Jeff, play summer baseball. Bock, an experienced sports executive, wanted a collegiate summer league closer to his home. He acted on it and the Coastal Plain league began play for the 1997 season. The Oakland Athletics (often referred to as the A's) are an American professional baseball team based in Oakland, California. The Athletics compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division. The team plays its home games at the Oakland Coliseum. Zack Gelof
Zack Gelof (born October 19, 1999) is an American baseball third baseman in the Oakland Athletics organization. He played college baseball at Virginia. Gelof was selected in the second round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft by the Athletics. High school Gelof grew up in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and attended Cape Henlopen High School. Gelof served as Class President for each of his four years, and played every game of the high school baseball team's four seasons in his years in high school. In his senior year, playing shortstop and pitching, he batted .465 and led the state in hits (35), runs (37), and home runs (7) and was 28-for-28 in stolen bases, along with 17 RBIs. As a pitcher he was 4-0 with a 1.30 ERA, and 34 strikeouts in 26 innings, and threw an 87 miles per hour fastball. Robert Allen Parnell (born September 8, 1984) is an American former baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers. He was drafted by the Mets in the ninth round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft after attending Charleston Southern University. Amateur career Bobby Parnell was born on September 9, 1984 in Salisbury, North Carolina. His father, also named Robert, and his grandfather were both firefighters. Todd Allen Wellemeyer (born August 30, 1978) is a former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played in the Major Leagues across eight years, for five teams, working as both a starting and relief pitcher. Thomasville, North Carolina
Thomasville is a city in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 27,183 at the 2020 census. The city was once notable for its furniture industry, as were its neighbors High Point and Lexington.
