High Hat (1927 Film)
''High Hat'' is a 1927 American film directed by James Ashmore Creelman. Plot High Hat is a movie extra at First National Pictures, but sees himself as the studio pundit, dispensing advice to stars such as John Barrymore and Pola Negri. A studio seamstress named Millie gets him a lucrative "closeup" assignment in the German director Von Strogoff's epic about the Russian Revolution The Russian Revolution was a period of Political revolution (Trotskyism), political and social revolution that took place in the former Russian Empire which began during the First World War. James Ashmore Creelman
James Ashmore Creelman (September 21, 1894 – September 9, 1941) was a film writer in Hollywood. Biography He was born on September 21, 1894, in Marietta, Ohio. He was the second son of James Creelman, the journalist and Alice Leffingwell Buell. He had a sister, Eileen Creelman, who married Frederick Morgan Davenport Jr., son of New York congressman Frederick Morgan Davenport. Creelman moved to New York City and then Washington, D.C. where his father worked as a journalist. He was a graduate of Yale University, where he edited campus humor magazine ''The Yale Record'' with Clements Ripley, writer of ''Jezebel''. Creelman worked for RKO studios from 1929 and contributed to the storyline of many of the studios' early adventure and thriller films including ''The Untamed Lady'', ''The Most Dangerous Game'', ''King Kong'', ''Dancers in the Dark'' and ''The Last Days of Pompeii''. John Barrymore
John Barrymore (born John Sidney Blyth; February 14 or 15, 1882 – May 29, 1942) was an American actor on stage, screen and radio. A member of the Drew and Barrymore theatrical families, he initially tried to avoid the stage, and briefly attempted a career as an artist, but appeared on stage together with his father Maurice in 1900, and then his sister Ethel the following year. He began his career in 1903 and first gained attention as a stage actor in light comedy, then high drama, culminating in productions of ''Justice'' (1916), '' Richard III'' (1920) and ''Hamlet'' (1922); his portrayal of Hamlet led to him being called the "greatest living American tragedian". The Russian Revolution was a period of Political revolution (Trotskyism), political and social revolution that took place in the former Russian Empire which began during the First World War. This period saw Russia abolish its monarchy and adopt a socialist form of government following two successive revolutions and a bloody civil war. Pola Negri (; born Apolonia Chalupec ; 3 January 1897 – 1 August 1987) was a Polish stage and film actress and singer. She achieved worldwide fame during the silent and golden eras of Hollywood and European film for her tragedienne and femme fatale roles and was acknowledged as a sex symbol. Raised in the Congress Kingdom of Poland, Negri's childhood was marked by several personal hardships: After her father was sent to Siberia, she was raised by her single mother in poverty, and suffered tuberculosis as a teenager. Negri recovered, and went on to study ballet and acting in Warsaw, becoming a well-known stage actress there. In 1917, she relocated to Germany, where she began appearing in silent films for the Berlin-based UFA studio. Her film performances for UFA came to the attention of Hollywood executives at Paramount Pictures, who offered her a film contract.
