The Commonwealth of Nations, simply referred to as the Commonwealth, is a political association of 56 member states, the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire. The chief institutions of the organisation are the Commonwealth Secretariat, which focuses on intergovernmental aspects, and the Commonwealth Foundation, which focuses on non-governmental relations amongst member states. Numerous organisations are associated with and operate within the Commonwealth. Catriona Wendy Campbell Laing is a British civil servant and diplomat who High Commissioner to Nigeria. Early life and education Laing studied economics at the London School of Economics, graduating with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in 1986. She later attended the Cranfield School of Management at Cranfield University, and completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1996. Paul Thomas Arkwright (born 2 March 1962) is a British diplomat who was High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2015–18. Early life Arkwright was born in Bolton, and grew up in Lancashire. He is the son of Thomas Arkwright and Muriel Hague. He grew up in Bolton. He attended the independent school Ampleforth College. He gained a BA in English in 1983 from Trinity College, Cambridge. Career Arkwright joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1987.
