The High Commission of Ghana in London is the diplomatic mission of Ghana in the United Kingdom. The High Commission operates two separate offices: at 13 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PN, and at Cromwell House, 104 Highgate Hill, London N6 5HE, as well as an Honorary Consulate in 17 Bellevue Road, Ayr KA7 2SA Glasgow, Scotland, and a Consulate at 1 Marine Terrace, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin A96 KD86, Ireland. The Passports, Immigration, Recruitment, Education, Trade & Investment, Police Liaison and International Maritime Organization Sections are all located in the building at 104 Highgate Hill, Highgate. The building at 13 Belgrave Square is also known as Halkin House, and is the former town residence of the Earls Beauchamp, of Madresfield Court, near Malvern, Worcestershire. The exterior of the building was filmed as the residence of the character Anna Kalman, played by Ingrid Bergman in the 1958 film, Indiscreet. Belgravia
Belgravia () is a Districts of London, district in Central London, covering parts of the areas of both the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Belgravia was known as the 'Five Fields' Tudor Period, during the Tudor Period, and became a dangerous place due to Highwayman, highwaymen and robberies. Kwame Nkrumah
Kwame Nkrumah (born 21 September 190927 April 1972) was a Ghanaian politician, political theorist, and revolutionary. He was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957. An influential advocate of Pan-Africanism, Nkrumah was a founding member of the Organization of African Unity and winner of the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962. After twelve years abroad pursuing higher education, developing his political philosophy, and organizing with other diasporic pan-Africanists, Nkrumah returned to the Gold Coast to begin his political career as an advocate of national independence. He formed the Convention People's Party, which achieved rapid success through its unprecedented appeal to the common voter. James Emmanuel Kwegyir Aggrey-Orleans, (11 October 1937 – 19 November 2018) was a Ghanaian civil servant and diplomat who served as Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ambassador of Ghana to the Republic of Ireland from October 1997 to March 2001. Joseph Leo Seko Abbey was a Ghanaian economist, politician and diplomat. He served as Ghana's Minister for Economic Planning from 1978 to 1979. He was Ghana High Commissioner to Canada from 1984 to 1986, Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1986 to 1990, and Ghana Ambassador to the United States of America from 1990 to 1994. Jerry Rawlings
Jerry John Rawlings (22 June 194712 November 2020) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who led the country for a brief period in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana. Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. After handing power over to a civilian government, he took back control of the country on 31 December 1981 as the chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). Kenneth K. S. Dadzie (10 September 1930 — 25 October 1995) was a Ghanaian diplomat. He served twice as the Ghanaian High Commissioner to the Court of St James's (UK) and was also the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) between 1986 and 1994. Career Dadzie joined the diplomatic service of the Gold Coast in 1952. He continued with the service after Ghana became an independent nation in 1957. He held several positions in the service and was seconded to senior positions within the United Nations Secretariat both in Geneva and New York. Hilla Limann, (12 December 1934 – 23 January 1998) was a Ghanaian diplomat and politician who served the President of Ghana from 24 September 1979 to 31 December 1981. He served as a diplomat in Lome, Togo and Geneva, Switzerland. Education Limann, whose original last name was Babini, was born in the northern Gold Coast town of Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region to a poor family. He managed to gain an excellent education, and took up a foreign service career. Hilla completed his basic school education at the Government Middle School, Tamale, in 1949. Lieutenant General Frederick William "Fred" Kwasi Akuffo (21 March 1937 – 26 June 1979) was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He was Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from 1976 to 1978, and chairman of the ruling Supreme Military Council in Ghana from 1978 to 1979. He came to power in a military coup, and was overthrown and executed in another military coup less than a year later. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong ( ; (23 September 1931 – 16 June 1979) was the military head of state of Ghana from 13 January 1972 to 5 July 1978, when he was deposed in a palace coup. He was executed by firing squad on 16 June 1979. Early life and education Acheampong was born to Catholic parents of Ashanti origin. He attended the Roman Catholic schools at Trabuom and the St Peter's school (also Catholic) at Kumasi, both in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
