Allan Higdon
Allan L. Higdon is a former Ottawa City Councillor and acting mayor of Ottawa. He served on council from 1994 through 2000. Born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Higdon immigrated to Canada with his family in 1957 and settled in Kingston, Ontario. He received a BA from Queen's University in English and History, a B.Ed from the University of Toronto, and also became an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT). After graduation, Higdon worked with the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy on a curriculum development project at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). He subsequently lived in Toronto and southeast Asia, later moving to Ottawa. Hal Higdon (born June 17, 1931) is an American writer and runner known for his training plans. He is the author of 34 books, including the best-selling ''Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide''. He has worked as a freelance writer since 1959, and has written a variety of subjects including a children's book that was made into an animated feature. He has contributed to '' Runner's World'' magazine longer than any other writer. He ran eight times in the United States Olympic Trials and won four World Masters Championships. He is one of the founders of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). Life and work He grew up in Chicago, Illinois. In 1947, he participated in track at the University of Chicago's Laboratory School, placing fourth as a sophomore with a 5:04.7 mile. Jennifer Elaine Higdon (born December 31, 1962) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. She has received many awards, including the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Music for her Violin Concerto and three Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition for her Percussion Concerto in 2010, Viola Concerto in 2018, and Harp Concerto in 2020. Elected a Member of the American Philosophical Society in 2019, she was a professor of composition at the Curtis Institute of Music from 1994 to 2021. Biography Higdon was born in Brooklyn, New York. Karan Higdon (born September 8, 1996) is an American football running back who is a free agent. He played college football at Michigan. Early years Higdon grew up in Sarasota, Florida, and attended that city's Riverview High School where he rushed for 1,471 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 218 carries. Higdon initially gave a verbal commitment to Iowa, but flipped his commitment to Michigan after a campus visit to Ann Arbor. College career As a freshman for Michigan in 2015, Higdon appeared briefly in three games and totaled 19 rushing yards on 11 carries. As a sophomore in 2016, Higdon appeared in 12 games and had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games against Rutgers (108 yards on 13 carries) and Illinois (106 on eight carries). Ranulf Higdon
Ranulf Higden or Higdon ( – 12 March 1364) was an English chronicler and a Benedictine monk who wrote the ''Polychronicon'', a Late Medieval magnum opus. Higden, who resided at the monastery of St. Werburgh in Chester, is believed to have been born in the West of England before taking his monastic vow at Benedictine Abbey in Chester in 1299. As a monk, he travelled throughout the North and Midlands of England, including Derbyshire, Shropshire and Lancashire. Higden began compiling the ''Polychronicon'' during the reign of Edward III in the 14th century. The chronicle, which was a six-book series about world history written in Latin, was considered a definitive historical text for more than two centuries. Michael Higdon (born 2 September 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward. He began his career with Crewe Alexandra where he came through the youth team before making the break into their first eleven in 2003. In 2007, he joined Scottish side Falkirk and then St Mirren in 2009 and Motherwell in 2011. After being a regular goal scorer in the Scottish Leagues, Higdon then moved to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen where he spent one season before signing for Sheffield United.
