Hierotheos The Thesmothete
Hierotheos the Thesmothete ( el, Ἱερόθεος ὁ Θεσμοθέτης) is the reputed first head and bishop of the Christian Athenians. The title ''thesmothete'' means ruler, or junior archon, of Athens (literally "rule-setter"). Biography Little is known of Hierotheos (Ἰερόθεος "sanctified by God"); church tradition holds that he was one of the learned men in the city of Athens. He was instructed in Christianity by Paul of Tarsus, the Apostle Paul, who baptized and ordained him around the year 52 AD. Hierotheos frequently visited and instructed Dionysius the Areopagite, St Dionysius the Areopagite. There is disagreement as to whether Hierotheos was actually a Priest#Roman Catholic and Orthodox, priest or bishop; some traditions describe Dionysius as the first bishop of Athens. John Komnenos Molyvdos
John Komnenos Molyvdos ( el, Ιωάννης Κομνηνός Μόλυβδος), also known by his monastic name Hierotheos (Ἱερόθεος) (1657-1719), was an Ottoman Greek scholar and physician, who later in life became a monk and Eastern Orthodox metropolitan bishop of Side and Dristra. He was a descendant of the Byzantine imperial dynasty of the Komnenoi, specifically of the branch that ruled the Empire of Trebizond, and is often regarded as the last member of the family. Origin Based on the date of his baptism (26 January 1658), John was born in mid-December 1657 at Heraclea Perinthus. The Romanian scholars Nicolae Iorga and N. Vatamanu considered John to hail from Lesbos, but it is securely attested that John was born in Heraclea; in a work whose edition he supervised, he calls himself "Perinthian" after the city's ancient name. Hierotheos Vlachos ( el, Ιερόθεος Βλάχος; born Georgios Vlachos, el, Γεώργιος Βλάχος, 1945) is a Greek people, Greek Eastern Orthodox, Orthodox Metropolitan bishop, metropolitan and theologian. Biography He was born in 1945 in Ioannina, Greece. He graduated from the Theological School of the University of Thessaloniki and was ordained priest in 1972 and bishop in 1995. His diocese is the Metropolis of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios. His book ''The Person in the Orthodox Tradition'' was awarded the first prize for the "top theological work written in Greece in 1991–96" by the Academy of Athens (modern), Academy of Athens.
