''Hierankl'' is a German award-winning family drama which premiered on 1 July 2003 at the Munich Film Festival. The modern ''Heimatfilm'', named after a district in Surberg, Germany, is the film debut of writer and director Hans Steinbichler. It received several nominations and awards, among them the 2006 Adolf Grimme Award for acting, cinematography, writing and direction. Johanna Wokalek (born 3 March 1975) is a German stage and film actress. A student of Klaus Maria Brandauer, she received critical recognition and three newcomer awards for her performance in the play ''Rose Bernd''. Wokalek is best known for her award-winning appearances in the German films ''Hierankl'', ''Barfuss'', and ''The Baader Meinhof Complex''. She received the Bambi (prize), Bambi award for her portrayal of the Red Army Faction member Gudrun Ensslin in 2008. She played the lead role in the film ''Pope Joan (2009 film), Pope Joan'' in 2009. Hans Steinbichler
Hans Sebastian Steinbichler (born 1 November 1966) is a German film director and screenwriter. Biography Steinbichler grew up in Kothöd in Upper Bavaria. He got his Abitur at the Ludwig-Thoma-Gymnasium Prien am Chiemsee. Then he studied jurisprudence in Passau first, but in 1995 he decided to attend the University of Television and Film Munich, where he finished his studies in 2003. In the same year, Steinbichler was awarded with the Förderpreis Deutscher Film and the golden Grimme-Preis for his debut film ''Hierankl''. The leading actress Johanna Wokalek won the Bavarian Film Award. In 2007, Steinbichlers film '' Winter Journey'' got several nominations for the Deutscher Filmpreis and ''Die zweite Frau'' was awarded with the Grimme-Preis. Frank Giering
Frank Giering (23 November 1971 – 23 June 2010) was a German actor. Biography Giering studied at the HFF Potsdam. He starred in a production of ''The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole'' and was cast by Austrian filmmaker, Michael Haneke for the TV movie, '' The Traitor'' and the 1997 films'' The Castle'' and '' Funny Games''. Giering's portrayal of the psychopathic killer, ‘Peter’ in "Funny Games" was considered a breakout performance. Giering was regularly seen in TV and cinema productions. His best known roles were in Sebastian Schipper's '' Absolute Giganten'' (1999) as Floyd, and in the film ''Baader'' (2002), portraying the leader of the Red Army Faction. Since 2006, Giering starred in the ZDF series ''Der Kriminalist'' as the Commissioner Henry Weber. He appeared in 30 episodes up until 2010. Barbara Sukowa (; born 2 February 1950) is a German actress of screen and stage and singer. She has received three German Film Awards for Best Actress, three Bavarian Film Awards, Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress, Venice Film Festival Award, and well as nomination for European Film Awards, César Awards and Grammy Awards. Sukowa is best known for her work with directors Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Margarethe von Trotta. Peter Simonischek (born 6 August 1946) is an Austrian people, Austrian actor. He is a celebrated stage performer and has been a regular ensemble member of the Burgtheater since 1999. He often appears at the Salzburg Festival and has played the title role in the play ''Jedermann (play), Jedermann'' numerous times. In addition, he has also appeared in more than sixty films since 1980.
