''Hiding Places'' is a collaborative studio album by Brooklyn rapper Billy Woods and Los Angeles record producer Kenny Segal. It was released by Backwoodz Studioz on March 29, 2019. It features guest appearances from Mothermary, Elucid, and Self Jupiter. The album cover is a photograph of the William Livingstone House in Detroit. Background Kenny Segal produced Milo's 2015 album '' So the Flies Don't Come'', which featured a guest appearance from Elucid. Elucid is one half of the duo Armand Hammer along with Billy Woods. Segal went on to provide the beats to Armand Hammer's albums ''Rome'' and ''Paraffin''. After that, Woods and Segal decided to create a collaborative album. Critical reception Marcus J. Moore of ''Pitchfork'' gave the album a 7.7 out of 10, writing: "In a way, ''Hiding Places'' plays like a complement to early-00s underground New York rap, and sits alongside early Definitive Jux records." Billy Woods (rapper)
Billy Woods (stylized as billy woods) is an American rapper based in New York. He is also the founder of the record label Backwoodz Studioz. Woods has been a member of Armand Hammer, Super Chron Flight Brothers, and The Reavers. Early life Billy Woods was born in Washington, D.C. His mother was an English literature professor from Jamaica. His father was a PhD Marxist writer, active in the Zimbabwe War of Liberation and then member of the government in Zimbabwe. In 1980, the family moved to Zimbabwe. After the death of Woods' father, they returned to the United States in 1989. Woods briefly attended Howard University before getting involved in New York City's hip hop scene. He started making music in the late 1990s. ''The Cold Vein'' is the debut studio album by American hip hop duo Cannibal Ox. It was produced by El-P and released on his Definitive Jux label on May 15, 2001. The album has since been reissued by iHipHop Distribution. Release ''The Cold Vein'' was the first full-length album to be released on former Company Flow member El-P's newly founded Definitive Jux record label, and its release was preceded by a significant amount of hype, particularly within the hip hop community. Cannibal Ox is an American hip hop duo from Harlem, New York, United States. It consists of Vast Aire and Vordul Mega, often accompanied by DJ Cip-One. History In 2001, Cannibal Ox released their first album ''The Cold Vein'' on Definitive Jux, which was the label's first full-length studio album. Definitive Jux
Definitive Jux was a record label based in New York City. It was co-founded in 1999 by El-P and Amaechi Uzoigwe. History Definitive Jux was initially known as Def Jux. However, popular hip hop label Def Jam Recordings sued Def Jux over the name similarity in 2001. This lawsuit was settled out of court and the name was officially changed to Definitive Jux. In February 2010, El-P announced that the label, although it will carry on selling its catalog and merchandise, would be put "on hiatus" as a traditional record label, and that it would be going through some changes in order to keep up with the evolution of the music industry.
