Hideout (album)
''Hideout'' is the third album by San Francisco-based indie rock band Film School, released on September 11, 2007. The album features a guest appearance by Colm O'Ciosoig from My Bloody Valentine. The album takes its name from a lyric in opening track "Dear Me." The first single from the album was "Dear Me", released as a digital download and on promo-only 7" vinyl (with different B-sides each) to coincide with the album's release. The album was recorded with Dan Long and mixed by Phil Ek Phil Ek is an American record producer, engineer and mixer. Ek began his career in Seattle, Washington in the early 1990s recording live sound in clubs. He then moved into studio recording, recording small projects and demos for local bands. Aroun .... Film School (band)
Film School is a five-piece indie rock band from Los Angeles and San Francisco. History The band was formed in 1998 by lead singer Greg Bertens. Initially, the band only consisted of Bertens working with members of Fuck and Pavement when they released their debut album ''Brilliant Career,'' on MeToo! records in 2001. Jason Ruck (keyboards), Nyles Lannon (guitar), Justin Labo (bass guitar), and Ben Montesano (drums) joined the band on a permanent basis later that year. In 2003, the band released ''Alwaysnever'', an EP on Amazing Grease Records, a record label founded by Scott Kannberg from the band Pavement. Donny Newenhouse later replaced Montesano on drums. Their self-titled album was released in January 2006 on Beggars Banquet Records. Film School has also provided music for a series of short films by Demetri Martin, known collectively as "Clearification", an advertising campaign for Windows Vista. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Beggars Banquet Records
Beggars Banquet Records is a British independent record label. Beggars Banquet started as a chain of record shops owned by Martin Mills and Nick Austin and is part of the Beggars Group of labels. History In 1977, spurred by the prevailing DIY aesthetics of the British punk rock movement (then at the height of its popularity), Martin Mills and Nick Austin founded a record label to release records under the Beggars Banquet imprint. The first band on the label was the English punk group the Lurkers; the first release on the label was the Lurkers' 7" single "Shadow"/"Love Story". They also released the first solo "Duffo" album from Australian big-band vocalist Jeff Duff. Later in the decade and into the early 1980s, hits with Tubeway Army and Gary Numan secured the label's future. My Bloody Valentine (band)
My Bloody Valentine (often stylised as my bloody valentine) is an Irish-English rock band formed in Dublin in 1983 and consisting since 1987 of founding members Kevin Shields (vocals, guitar, sampler), Colm Ó Cíosóig (drums, sampler) with Bilinda Butcher (vocals, guitar) and Debbie Googe (bass). Their music is characterized by dissonant guitar textures, androgynous vocals, and unorthodox production techniques. They are credited with pioneering the 1990s genre shoegaze. Following several unsuccessful early releases and membership changes, My Bloody Valentine signed to Creation Records in 1988. Dan Long (producer)
Dan Long is an American music producer, recording engineer, and mixer. He owns Headwest Studio, also known as Exactamundo. With Alex Lipsen and Scott Norton, he founded Headgear Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where artists such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, David Bowie, Son Volt, and The All-American Rejects have recorded. Early life Long was born in Washington, D.C., attended Georgetown Preparatory School, and graduated from the University of Virginia with a major in international relations and a minor in German. After moving to New York City in 1996, he got his start recording music by making four-track recordings of friends' bands. Phil Ek
Phil Ek is an American record producer, engineer and mixer. Ek began his career in Seattle, Washington in the early 1990s recording live sound in clubs.
