Hicham Bouaouiche
Hicham Bouaouiche (born 16 June 1974) is a retired Moroccan long-distance runner who specialized in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He finished eleventh at the 1996 Summer Olympics, fifth at the 1997 World Championships in Athletics, and eleventh in the Grand Prix Final the same year. His personal best time is 8:10.10 minutes, achieved in July 1998 in Nice. At the 1998 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech Bouaouiche finished ninth in the short race and won a silver medal with the Moroccan team. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely Aerobic exercise, aerobic in nature and requires endurance, stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity.
