Hibbard H. Shedd
Hibbard Houston Shedd (January 27, 1847 – October 6, 1905) was an American politician who served as the fourth lieutenant governor of Nebraska from 1885 to 1889. Shedd was born in Denmark, Iowa in 1847, the only son of George Shedd, a medical doctor, and Abigail Houston. In 1864 he joined the army and fought in the American Civil War as a part of the 45th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry.Roberts, Nelson C. and Moorhead, S.W. The lieutenant governor of Nebraska is the highest-ranking executive official in the State of Nebraska after the Governor of Nebraska, governor. According to the Constitution of Nebraska, Nebraska State Constitution, in the event a governor dies, becomes permanently incapacitated, resigns, or is removed from office, the lieutenant governor will become governor. Prior to the Constitution of 1875, Nebraska had no office of Lieutenant Governor. If the governor died, resigned, or was removed from office (as happened to Governor David Butler (politician), David Butler in 1871), then the Nebraska Secretary of State was appointed as Acting Governor until the vacancy would be filled by the next election. Ashland, Nebraska
Ashland is a city in Saunders County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,453 at the 2010 census. History Ashland is located at the site of a low-water limestone ledge along the bottom of Salt Creek, an otherwise mud-bottomed stream that was a formidable obstacle for wagon trains on the great westward migrations of the late 1840s and 1850s. The Oxbow Trail, a variant route of the Oregon Trail, ran from Nebraska City (on the Missouri River) to Fort Kearny (on the Platte River), where it joined the main route of the Oregon Trail. The limestone bottom of Salt Creek at Ashland made it an excellent fording site. Ashland was established in 1870 and named after Ashland, the estate of Henry Clay. Today, Ashland benefits by its proximity to Interstate 80 and the cities of Omaha and Lincoln. George Clifford Shedd
George Clifford Shedd (1877 – January 8, 1937) was an early 20th-century American writer. Several of his novels were adapted into films. His novel ''The Incorrigible Dukane'' (1911) was made into a film starring John Barrymore in 1915, and ''In the Shadow of the Hills'' (1919) was adapted for the screen as ''Cold Steel'' (1921). Shedd was born in Ashland, Nebraska, the son of Hibbard H.
